# Eccentric Racing Photos The Soapbox Racers Photo Series is Exceptionally Creative and Amusing By Rahul Kalvapalle | Published 2015-10-16 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/soapbox-racers References: [featureshoot](http://www.featureshoot.com/2015/10/theatrical-portraits-of-soapbox-racers-in-london/) & [alanpowdrill](http://www.alanpowdrill.com/) The Soapbox Racers is a photo series, captured by the noted British photographer Alan Powdrill, that focuses on capturing the personalities and unique eccentricities of individual competitors of the Soapbox Races. The event, which was held in London earlier this year, comprised over a hundred homemade cars competing in a wacky and wild downhill race. These photos feature racers depicted on backdrops sthat match their specific themes for added context and amusement. Ultimately, the Soapbox Racers photo series is both revealing and humorous. The stiff poses and redesigned backdrops give this photo series a distinct sense of theatricality, with each substance seeming to play an intentional role in offsetting the seriousness of things a little bit and making things a little irreverent. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 1.2/10 - Popularity: 18% | Activity: 11% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) ## Key Themes ### What's Driving This Trend - **Soapbox Racing Photography:** The growing popularity of soapbox racing events offers a unique and entertaining avenue for photographers to showcase their skills in capturing the eccentricities of participants. - **Themed Racing Events:** The trend towards themed soapbox racing events provides an innovative opportunity for event organizers to create unique and engaging experiences for participants and spectators alike. - **Theatrical Event Photography:** The rise of themed and eccentric events opens up a market for photographers to create staged and theatrical photos that add to the fun and creative atmosphere. ### Who This Affects Most - **Photography:** Professional and amateur photographers alike have a new avenue to showcase their skills and creativity through soapbox racing photography. - **Event Planning:** Event planners can utilize the eccentric and themed nature of soapbox racing events to create a niche space in the event planning industry. - **Automotive:** The growth of soapbox racing events creates an opportunity for automotive companies to invest in designing and manufacturing safer and faster soapbox race cars. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Skateboard-Themed Photography Books](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/rabbit-hole-1.md) - [Race Car-Themed Candles](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/22-racing.md) - [Futuristic Transparent Cafe Racers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/rat-race-cafe-racer.md) - [Branded Action Camera Go-Karts](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/gopro-gokart.md) - [Race-Inspired Puzzle Collections](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/build-the-thrill.md) - [Electric Hot Rod Vehicles](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/electric-hot-rod.md) - [Motorsport Archive Books](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/artifacts-porsche-motorsport.md) - [Race-Honoring Donut Collections](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/pinkbox-doughnuts-formula-one.md) - [Playful Public Seating Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/playful-public-seating.md)
