# Cheerful Smiling Screws These Smiley Face Screws Add Some Cheer to Construction By Michael Baxter | Published 2014-03-21 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/smiley-face-screw References: [designboom](http://www.designboom.com/design/studio-yumakano-smiley-face-screws-joy-03-20-2014/) & [yumakano](http://yumakano.com/) These smiley face screws may seem like a strange piece of construction technology, but they could be a fun and useful alternative to normal screws. The screws and accompanying [screwdrivers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/fusion-driver) were made by [Studio Yumakano](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/fragments-becoming), and provide a cheerful side to renovation and construction. Screws are so commonplace and easy-to-miss, so redesigning them has never been a priority. These smiley face screws, however, show that there can be good ideas in this arena -- and they do so with a smile on their face. The purpose of 'The Screw:)' is to add joy to everyday mass-produced products. It may be a ways off before they become common, but they do work as a little pleasant surprise within everyday objects.
