Smaxtec is an Austrian agtech company that has created a sensor to help herd managers breed their cows. People consume a tremendous amount of beef and dairy products, so increasing the efficiency of those industries in any way is important. Smaxtec's stomach implant uses sensors and connectivity to send alerts at the perfect time for breeding, eliminating the guesswork that previously came with that task.

A cow's heat lasts for a relatively short amount of time: just 30 hours, with the peak of the heat being between hours 12 and 24. Though farmers and herd managers are experienced at detecting cows in heat, it can be easy to miss when herds are very large or spread out across a wide range. The Smaxtec stomach implant picks up data about cows' temperature, stomach pH, activity level, and more, and sends herd managers or vets an email when it detects that they are entering heat.
