A perfect residence for university students, this [candy-coated piece of architecture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/hubbabubbabuilding) is fun, vibrant and full of youthfulness. Designed by Architectenbureau Marlies Rohmer Architecture, the Smarties student housing facility is located in Utrecht, Netherlands. It was built on the [Utrecht University](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/gerrit-rietveld), turning the Uithof into a full-fledged campus. By addressing the [shortage of housing for students](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/regensburg-quarter), it signals a new appreciation for university-goers as well as education. The multicolored Smarties student housing facility is comprised of 380 independent and clustered rooms as well as party rooms and other sections dedicated to a well-rounded campus lifestyle. The Smarties student housing facility wasn't just inspired by the candy, but also by the eclectic students themselves. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 5.3/10 - Popularity: 79% | Activity: 73% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### Key Themes Behind This Trend - **Multicolored Architecture:** The Smarties student housing facility showcases the trend of using vibrant and multicolored designs in architecture to create an energetic and youthful environment. - **Student Housing Solutions:** The Smarties student housing facility highlights the trend of addressing the shortage of housing for students, presenting an opportunity for innovation in the student housing industry. - **Campus Lifestyle Integration:** The Smarties student housing facility exemplifies the trend of creating well-rounded campus environments by incorporating facilities such as party rooms and other sections for a complete student experience. ### Where This Applies - **Architecture:** The Smarties student housing facility presents disruptive innovation opportunities in the architecture industry by exploring new ways to incorporate playful and vibrant designs in building structures. - **Real Estate:** The Smarties student housing facility highlights the need for innovative solutions in the real estate industry to address housing shortages for students and create more affordable and appealing options. - **Education:** The Smarties student housing facility signifies an opportunity for disruptive innovation in the education sector to prioritize and invest in student accommodations for a better university experience. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Rainbow Micro Apartments](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/skittles-little-living.md) - [Ultra-Colorful High-Density Residential Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/highdensity-residential-design.md) - [Candy-Inspired School-Centric Campaigns](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/smarties-u.md) - [Fluffy Soft Marshmallow Penthouses](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/marshmallow-penthouse.md) - [Vegan Confectionery Store Concepts](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/vegan-confectionery-store.md) - [Lush Garden Housing Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/volante.md) - [Geometric Colorful Residential Spaces](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/graphic-house.md) - [Red Brick Apartments](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/miller-apartment-building.md) - [Candy-Coated White Chocolates](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/white-chocolate-smarties.md)
