These screws are intended for use in large-scale industrial structures like bridges, ramps, stairways, or other architectural developments. When the screw is installed and the washer is tightened, the washer automatically determines the force it is receiving from three points on its head. If this pressure reduces by a certain degree, the screw and washer will send a notification to a nearby base station which can be monitored remotely via an internet connection. The Fraunhofer smart screws and washers are currently available in the M18 size, however, the company announced the creation of M20 and [M36](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/dualband-routers)-size screws in the near future.
