# Smart Home Interfaces This Bowl-Shaped Interface Concept Can Have Functions Assigned to It By Mishal Omar | Published 2016-05-26 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/smart-home-interface References: [fastcodesign](http://www.fastcodesign.com/3060211/controlling-a-smart-home-can-be-as-easy-as-tossing-keys-in-a-bowl/10) & [gaborbalint](http://www.gaborbalint.com/memodo) Project Memodo is a smart home interface concept that is a more personal version of most home control devices. The shape and concept of the Memodo is centered around the idea that when people get home from work, they toss their keys into a designated bowl. The Memodo takes this idea and runs with it, using "totems" such as keys to represent functions. For example, the bowl can be set up to recognize keys when they are tossed into it and turn on air conditioning or music based on the homeowner's preferences. The interior of the bowl is made up of low-res computer cameras and the totems that are assigned functions can be anything -- from keys to coins to toys. This interesting concept allows for [smart home interfaces](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/majordom-smart-home-hub) to interact with the homeowner on a more personal level, as it is commanded by day-to-day actions rather than controlled by voice. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 4.6/10 - Popularity: 56% | Activity: 73% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Home](https://www.trendhunter.com/home) ## Key Themes ### What Makes This Trend Stand Out - **Personalized Smart Home Interfaces:** The Memodo concept takes smart home interfaces to a more personal level by using day-to-day actions such as tossing keys into a bowl to assign functions. - **Object Recognition Technology:** The interior of the Memodo bowl consists of low-res computer cameras that can recognize objects like keys, coins, and toys to trigger specific functions. - **Intuitive Home Control:** The Memodo concept allows homeowners to control their smart homes based on their preferences and actions, making the interface more intuitive and user-friendly. ### Sectors Adopting This - **Smart Home Technology:** The Memodo concept is a disruptive innovation opportunity for companies in the smart home technology industry. - **Home Automation Systems:** Companies in the home automation systems industry can explore the integration of object recognition technology and personalized interfaces inspired by the Memodo concept. - **Consumer Electronics:** The Memodo concept presents an opportunity for disruptive innovation in the consumer electronics industry by reimagining how smart home interfaces interact with users. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Expressive Smart Home Displays](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/smart-pad-concept.md) - [Smart Home Control Displays](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/kocom-the-frame.md) - [Bowl-Shaped Meditation Speakers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/miifm.md) - [AI-Powered Entryway Light Projectors](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/dearbell.md) - [Decor-Disguised Smart Products](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/smart-home-product-concepts.md) - [AI Reflection Devices](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-cognitive-bloom.md) - [Shell-Inspired Speaker Concepts](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/shell-intelligent.md) - [Immersive Home Controls](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/loma-home.md) - [Acousto-Optic Smart Speakers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/smart-wireless-speaker-design.md)
