# One-Handed Keyboard Gloves These Smart Gloves Allow Wearers to Type Using Simple Finger Gestures By Charlotte Joyce Kidd | Published 2015-11-02 | Unique Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/smart-gloves References: [gizmag](http://www.gizmag.com/gauntlet-hand-keyboard/24693/) & [uah.edu](http://www.uah.edu/news/research/uahuntsville-students-hope-glove-keyboard-will-revolutionize-use-of-devices-with-one-hand) The Gauntlet is a pair of smart gloves that let its wearer type simply by moving their thumb along their fingers. The one-handed keyboard glove was designed by a team of researchers at the [University of Alabama](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/fingertrak) in Huntsville. The Gauntlet's creators hope that it will help [people with disabilities](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/onehanded-controller) type more easily and efficiently, but it's also easy to see how it could be useful for able-bodied people struggling to type in the cold. The smart gloves have letters along the inside of each one of their fingers. Tapping on a letter with one's thumb will type that letter into a smartphone's keyboard. Swiping the thumb through the air deletes previously typed text. The UAH team is currently seeking a patent for the Gauntlet smart gloves, which it believes have applications in accessibility, gaming and even the military. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 2.7/10 - Popularity: 32% | Activity: 40% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Gen Z, Millennial - Top markets: North America, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Unique](https://www.trendhunter.com/unique) > [Inventions](https://www.trendhunter.com/inventions) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Smart Gloves:** Disruptive innovation opportunities include further development of smart gloves for various applications. - **Accessibility Technology:** There is potential for disruptive innovation in creating more accessible technologies for people with disabilities. - **Gesture Typing:** Opportunities exist for disruptive innovation in improving gesture typing technology for more efficient and intuitive user experiences. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Consumer Electronics:** The consumer electronics industry can explore and adapt smart glove technology for a range of applications. - **Gaming:** The gaming industry can incorporate gesture typing and smart glove technology to enhance immersive gameplay experiences. - **Medical and Assistive Technology:** The medical and assistive technology industry can leverage smart gloves to create innovative solutions for individuals with physical disabilities. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Inclusive One-Handed Gamer Keyboards](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/onehanded-keyboard-concept.md) - [Key-Typing Headgarments](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/gboard-cap.md) - [Wearable PC Keyboard Controllers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/grab-shell.md) - [One-Handed Gamer Keyboards](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/mechanical-gaming-keypad.md) - [Massaging Hand Healthcare Gloves](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/knitdema-glove.md) - [Tactile VR Gloves](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/tactglove.md) - [Intelligent Touchscreen Keyboards](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/keygo-touchscreen-keyboard.md) - [Gesture Control Keyboards](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/clvx-1-keyboard.md) - [Membrane-Equipped VR Gloves](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/diver-x.md)
