# Ocean-Purifying Drones This Smart Drone is Designed to Clean the Ocean Autonomously By Gurveer Brah | Published 2015-09-04 | Unique Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/smart-drone References: [yankodesign](http://www.yankodesign.com/2015/09/01/long-term-coast-guard/) & [everythingaboutdesign](http://everythingaboutdesign.com/long-term-coast-guard/) This [ocean purifying smart drone](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/hydro-hawk) is a solution to the growing waste problem that has spilled over into the world's oceans. This design aims to clean up large accumulations of waste that fill large bodies of water. Designers Song Shi and Liu Kuan have developed a drone concept that could potentially clean up large quantities of garbage and waste in the ocean. The team recognizes the amount of resources it would take for areas like this to be cleaned up conventionally and offers a smart drone alternative. The design is based on a fan, keeping constant motion and shifting waste towards itself. This waste can be gathered and collected in the openings on the inside of the rotating device. The ocean purifying drones are also [foldable for easy repositioning](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/hoverair-aqua). ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 6.5/10 - Popularity: 93% | Activity: 95% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Gen Z, Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Unique](https://www.trendhunter.com/unique) > [Inventions](https://www.trendhunter.com/inventions) ## Key Themes ### Key Themes Behind This Trend - **Ocean Cleaning Drones:** Autonomous drones designed to clean up ocean waste using innovative technology could potentially revolutionize ocean cleaning. - **Sustainability Drones:** Drones designed for sustainability purposes such as waste reduction and ocean clean-up are becoming a growing trend and are increasingly in demand. - **Smart Waste Management:** Innovative waste management solutions using smart technologies such as drones are emerging as a potential solution to the global waste problem. ### Where This Applies - **Environmental Services:** Environmental services companies could leverage ocean cleaning drones to offer more efficient and low-cost solutions to ocean pollution. - **Drone Manufacturing:** Drone manufacturing companies could potentially develop ocean cleaning drones to expand their product offerings. - **Marine Transportation:** Marine transportation companies can utilize ocean cleaning drones to manage and maintain clear waterways, creating a safer environment for maritime operations. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Drone-Equipped Air Purifiers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ultro-air-purification-system.md) - [Flying Aquatic Maintenance Drones](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/seaair-integrated-drone.md) - [Water-Based Entertainment Drones](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/arivia-watersurface-drone.md) - [Aquatic Shark-Inspired Drones](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/waterborne-drone.md) - [Danger-Embracing Underwater Drones](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/dangerembracing-underwater-drones.md) - [Interactive Autonomous Cityscape Sweepers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/interactive-unmanned-sweeper-concept.md) - [Solar Panel Cleaning Drones](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/solar-panel-cleaning-system.md) - [Autonomous Air Purifiers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/mito-air-purifier.md) - [Water Sampling Drone Systems](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/hydro-hawk.md)
