# Dual-Purpose Pot Lids The 'Smart Cover' Acts as a Table Protector When Serving Dishes By Michael Hemsworth | Published 2017-11-15 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/smart-cover References: [yankodesign](http://www.yankodesign.com/2017/11/14/a-smart-twist-on-the-lid/) The 'Smart Cover' pot lid comes as a [dual-purpose piece of equipment](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/luneup) for the kitchen that will allow you to keep using it even after the cooking process has finished. Featuring a shifting design, the lid allows you to cover the pot during cooking and be turned when placed on the table to let you place the cooking equipment directly on it. This both props up the pot and protects the surface to ensure you can use the same equipment for serving as you do for cooking. The 'Smart Cover' pot lid is the design work of Qi Qiu, Ziwei Wang, Jinghe Zhang, Zedequan Rong and Min Zhao, and acknowledges a growing need for [multipurpose kitchen equipment](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/stackable-cookware) by avid cooking consumers. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 4.3/10 - Popularity: 70% | Activity: 51% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Kitchen](https://www.trendhunter.com/kitchen) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Dual-purpose Kitchen Tools:** The Smart Cover pot lid is an example of a new wave of kitchen tools that serve multiple purposes. - **Shifting Design:** The Smart Cover lid's shifting design opens up opportunities for other kitchen tools with similar multi-use designs. - **Seamless Cooking-to-serving Equipment:** The Smart Cover lid's ability to seamlessly transition from cooking to serving opens up innovation opportunities in the kitchen equipment industry. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Kitchenware:** The Smart Cover lid is a new product in the kitchenware industry which is ripe for disruption with the popularity of multipurpose tools. - **Home Goods:** The Smart Cover lid points to a growing desire for multipurpose home goods which can be leveraged by innovators. - **Cooking Appliances:** The Smart Cover lid is an example of how cooking appliances can be designed for a seamless cook-to-serve experience, opening up new opportunities for innovation. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Anti-Scald Protective Covers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/protective-covers.md) - [Contemporary Smart Cooker Concepts](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ods.md) - [Cookware-Encapsulating Kitchen Gadgets](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/splatterdm.md) - [Modular Serving Dishes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/thermal-serving-dish.md) - [Revolutionary Splatter Guards](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/adjustable-stovetop-splatter-guard.md) - [Aftermarket Air Frying Lids](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/kalorik-universal-air-fryer-lid.md) - [Versatile Steamer-Pot Combos](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/everything-pot1.md) - [Space-Saving Range Hoods](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/oilvent.md) - [Multifunctional Kitchen Tools](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/latticeboard-multipurpose-kitchen-board.md)
