# Sweeping Sculptural Furniture The Slo-Gen Table by Cal Poly Looks Like a Mathematical Visual By Meghan Young | Published 2013-08-02 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/slogen-table References: [trendsnow.net](http://www.trendsnow.net/2013/08/the-slo_gen-table.html) & [archlpoly.edu](http://www.arch.calpoly.edu/) Although the Slo-Gen Table could be nothing other than a table, it has a [sweeping sculptural aesthetic](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/arnardo-desk) that could easily make people question this function. There appears to be a grander purpose to the Slo-Gen Table than being used as a surface for people to gather around. Yet perhaps that is grand enough. As the new reception desk for the lobby of [Studio Gensler](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/tidone) in Los Angeles, California, it does act as a great first impression. Designed by Cal Poly in joint effort with a team of architectural students (Ben Hait-Campbell, Cory Walker and Kegan Charles Flanderka), the Slo-Gen Table is made out of a mix of wood and HI-MACS. Curvaceous with a [grid-like pattern](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/solis-collection), the Slo-Gen Table looks like a mathematical representation of some sort. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 4.4/10 - Popularity: 72% | Activity: 52% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Sculptural Furniture Design:** Idea of sweeping sculptural aesthetics can be used to design furniture for luxury hotels or premium offices - **Sustainable Material Combinations:** Experimentation with innovative material choices to create sustainable furniture options for eco-conscious consumers - **Architectural Collaboration:** Collaboration between architects and furniture designers to create unique and visually stunning pieces for public spaces like lobbies or co-working areas ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Interior Design:** Creating bespoke, sculptural furniture pieces for luxury homes and commercial spaces - **Hospitality:** Using visually striking furniture designs to improve the guest experience at resorts, restaurants, and hotels - **Sustainability:** Partnering with furniture designers to create sustainable, eco-friendly pieces for individuals and businesses looking to reduce their environmental impact ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Undulating Fabric-Topped Tables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/groove-table-concept.md) - [Sophisticated Table Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/monumental-table.md) - [Fluid Topographic Coffee Tables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/dune-table.md) - [Wavy Sculptural Coffee Tables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sculptural-coffee-tables.md) - [Elegant Table Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/tangent-table.md) - [Slender Geometric Furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/tong-side-table.md) - [Harmonious Helical Coffee Tables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/vortex-coffee-table.md) - [Geometrically Informed Outdoor Tables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/outdoor-table1.md) - [Coastline-Inspired Table Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/marea-low-table.md)
