The platform works by creating a [real life connection](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/offlinery) with those around them thanks to a [location-based functionality](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/instagram-map) that will provide users with alerts regarding who around them matches their networking criteria. This could include those in their field or industry to help them start up a conversation that could lead to a professional connection that benefits everyone. The 'Skillmap' network is focused on an appearance-blind functionality that won't reveal visual details about a person until you both connect. The platform could help remote workers to expand their network, meet those in their neighborhood, make new friends and much more. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 1.1/10 - Popularity: 10% | Activity: 15% | Freshness: 9% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Business](https://www.trendhunter.com/business) ## Key Themes ### Key Themes Behind This Trend - **Location-based Networking:** The growing popularity of location-based networking apps like Skillmap presents an opportunity for businesses to create new digital networking and marketing tools that can help professionals connect in real-time based on shared interests and business objectives - **Appearance-blind Functionality:** The rise of appearance-blind functionality in networking apps presents a new opportunity for businesses to build more diverse, equitable, and inclusive professional networks that are based on skills, experience, and shared interests rather than race, gender, or other physical attributes - **Hyper-local-based Networks:** The emergence of hyper-local-based networking apps like Skillmap opens up new opportunities for businesses to create location-specific marketing campaigns, events, and partnerships that can help professionals connect with each other and with local businesses in new and meaningful ways ### Where This Applies - **Technology:** Companies in the technology industry can leverage location-based networking apps like Skillmap to create new mobile, social, and cloud-based tools that can help businesses connect with each other and with their local communities in more efficient, effective, and engaging ways - **Human Resources:** Human Resources professionals can use location-based networking apps like Skillmap to help their employees build professional networks, recruit top talent, and promote their company culture to a wider audience - **Advertising and Marketing:** Advertising and Marketing businesses can make use of location-based networking apps like Skillmap to help companies target specific audiences based on their location and interests, create more personalized and relevant campaigns, and build long-term relationships with their customers and partners ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Smart Networking Tools](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/smart-networking1.md) - [Remote Worker Networking Apps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/app-for-remote-workers.md) - [Hyperlocal Social Networks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/hyperlocal-social-networks.md) - [Simplified Connection Apps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/connection-apps.md) - [Social Professional Productivity Apps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/likemind-app.md) - [AI-Powered Socialization Apps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/bu-app.md) - [Customizable Friendship-Forging Apps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/iradius-networking-app.md) - [Streamlined Skilled Trades Apps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/trades-app.md) - [Professional Networking Platforms](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/justnetwork.md)
