# Texan Lake Homes The Ski Shores Lakehouse Offers a Contemporary Take on a Traditional Style By Vasiliki Marapas | Published 2014-07-10 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ski-shores-lakehouse References: [contemporist](http://www.contemporist.com/2014/07/10/ski-shores-lakehouse-by-stuart-sampley-architect/) & [stuartsampleyarchitect](http://stuartsampleyarchitect.com/) Architect Stuart Sampley designed the 'Ski Shores Lakehouse' in Austin, Texas. The architect created this Texan abode in the spirit of the [traditional dogtrot](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/dogtrot), an architectural style made up of two separate log cabins connected by a breezeway and covered by a single roof. Likewise, the Ski Shores Lakehouse features two volumes, which share a common porch. In the center of the volumes, in what would typically be referred to as the breezeway (or dogtrot), an outdoor dining area is situated. The location is especially perfect, as it is cooled by the nearby lake breeze, making the dining experience as comfortable as possible. Inside, the home features a [minimally-styled kitchen](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/texas-residence), a sunken living room that provides relief from unrelenting Texas heat and cozy bedrooms with windows that offer incredible views of the sprawling landscape. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 1.7/10 - Popularity: 32% | Activity: 12% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### Key Themes Behind This Trend - **Traditional-style Homes:** Opportunity for disruptive innovation in designing modern homes inspired by traditional architectural styles. - **Outdoor Living Spaces:** Opportunity for disruptive innovation in creating innovative and comfortable outdoor dining and entertainment areas for homes. - **Minimally-styled Interiors:** Opportunity for disruptive innovation in designing sleek and minimalist interiors for residential spaces. ### Where This Applies - **Architecture:** Opportunity for disruptive innovation in the field of architectural design, combining traditional and modern elements. - **Home and Garden:** Opportunity for disruptive innovation in creating innovative outdoor living spaces and interior design solutions for homes. - **Real Estate:** Opportunity for disruptive innovation in the real estate market by offering unique and modern homes inspired by traditional styles. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Organic Lake Retreats](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/usonianinspired-lake-house.md) - [Contemporary Ski Home Projects](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/traditional-ski-chalet.md) - [Tranquil River-Overlooking Residences](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/river-bend-residence.md) - [Mountain Courtyard Residences](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ski-house.md) - [Contemporary Cantilevered Residences](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/westview-residence.md) - [Private Lifestyle Minimal Bungalows](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/southwestern-residence.md) - [Thoughtful Lakeside Home Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/lakeside-living.md) - [Prefabricated Timber Barn Residences](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/north-fork.md) - [Tree-Surrounding Contemporary Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/live-oak-ride-residence.md)
