# Doodled Mug Mats The Sketch Coasters and Trivets Mimic the Look of the Items That They Hold By Amelia Roblin | Published 2014-01-25 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sketch-coasters References: [peleg-design](http://www.peleg-design.com/products.php) All that you need to keep your tabletop protected from scalding saucepans is a pad made from insulating material; however, these Sketch Coasters and Trivets demonstrate that there is a major opportunity here for creativity. Peleg Design came up with a collection of four [mug mats](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/puffin-drinkware) and three hot pots that have been done up to represent the appearances of the very objects that they hold. Teacups, saucers, [mugs and coffee cups](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/pinch-hold) seem to have been made from silicone to resemble 2D doodles complete with details like shading and texture and the inclusion of teaspoons and sugar cubes. The Sketch Coasters look like [frying pans and pots](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/thermal-serving-dish) with illusory accents to suggest shiny metal and simmering contents. The sets are practical and decorative and sure to delight every person at the dinner table. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 2.6/10 - Popularity: 54% | Activity: 16% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Gen Z, Gen Alpha, Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### Key Themes Behind This Trend - **Doodled Tabletop Protectors:** Using insulating material, create pad designs that mimic the appearance of objects they hold, such as teacups, saucers, mugs, and coffee cups. - **2D Doodle-inspired Home Accessories:** Incorporate silicone-made doodles with shading, texture, and details into various home accessories like coasters, trivets, frying pans, and pots. - **Practical Decorative Sets:** Combine functionality and aesthetics to design sets of practical and decorative tabletop protectors and accessories that bring delight to the dinner table. ### Where This Applies - **Home Decor:** Incorporate doodle-inspired designs into home decor items like coasters, trivets, frying pans, and pots. - **Kitchenware:** Explore the creation of doodle-inspired kitchenware products like mug mats, trivets, frying pans, and pots made from insulating materials. - **Gift and Novelty:** Introduce doodle-inspired tabletop protectors and accessories as unique gift and novelty items for consumers who appreciate creative and decorative designs. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Cork Coaster-Integrated Coffee Tables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/polka-coffee-table.md) - [Surrealist-Inspired Tea Pots](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/tea-for-two-collection.md) - [Aquatic Beverage Coasters](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/crab-inspired-coasters.md) - [Anti-Scald Protective Covers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/protective-covers.md) - [Chromatic Oceanic Coffee Mugs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/nova-ceramics-travel-mugs.md) - [Warm-Toned Marble Coasters](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/lusine-coasters.md) - [Uniquely Shaped Drinkware](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/heart-doublewall-latte-mugs.md) - [Realistic Sketch-Reflective Furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/drawing-series.md) - [Vibrantly Designed Playful Tableware](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/hem.md)
