# Balanced Active-Sitting Chairs SitTight Improves Health for People Who Sit for Long Hours By Joey Haar | Published 2017-07-19 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sittight References: [sittight](https://sittight.com/?ref=producthunt) & [kickstarter](https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1145546490/balanced-active-sitting-chair-get-fit-while-you-si?token=ff2b1a0c) Most people are aware of the potential health detriments that come with sitting for long hours at a time, but the SitTight chair lets people stay seated without having to deal with those issues as acutely. The chair encourages [active sitting](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sway-chair) by engaging the body's natural ability to balance while in a constant state of motion. From top to bottom, the SitTight chair is [ergonomically designed](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/autonomous-ergochair-ultra-2). The seat is made of mesh, and it has a slight curve along two axes. This design lets workers sit in the chair either traditionally or saddle-style, thus exercising different muscles throughout the day. The [balance platform](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sedeo-chair) at the bottom of the chair is made from injection plastic, and the low profile convex dome doesn't sit flat. This forces sitters to constantly balance — not so much that it requires focus, but enough to prevent excess sedentary time. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 5.2/10 - Popularity: 75% | Activity: 73% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/furniture) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Active-sitting Chairs:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Develop chairs that encourage active sitting by engaging the body's natural ability to balance while in motion. - **Ergonomic Design:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Create ergonomic designs for chairs that promote better posture and help prevent health issues caused by long periods of sitting. - **Balance Platforms:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Design balance platforms for chairs that force sitters to constantly balance, preventing excessive sedentary time. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Furniture:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Revolutionize the furniture industry by creating active-sitting chairs that prioritize health and well-being. - **Office Supplies:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Develop innovative office supplies such as ergonomically designed chairs that improve the productivity and comfort of office workers. - **Health and Wellness:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Explore opportunities in the health and wellness industry by creating products that help individuals maintain an active lifestyle despite sedentary work. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Fitness-Focused Office Chairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ezhula-chair.md) - [Spinal Alignment Desk Chairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/standing-desk-chair-encourages.md) - [Dynamic Ergonomic Chairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/libernovo-omni.md) - [Health-Focused Office Chairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/smart-office-chair.md) - [Active Motion Desk Stools](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/swing-ao-stool.md) - [Posture-Supporting Seat Pads](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/active-sitting-pad.md) - [Sit-Stand Office Chair Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/movably-pro.md) - [Upright-Posture Gaming Chairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/active-gaming-seat.md) - [Dynamic Intelligent Office Chairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/dynamic-spinecare.md)
