# Lawless Cartoon Designs Dan Luvisi’s Simpsons Illustration Showcases a Vice City Concept By Ian Andrew Panganiban | Published 2013-06-02 | Pop Culture Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/simpsons-illustration References: [danluvisiart.deviantart](http://danluvisiart.deviantart.com/art/Grand-Theft-Otto-Part-1-373138325) & [danluvisiart](http://www.danluvisiart.com/) Graphics master Dan Luvisi has masterfully recreated several Simpsons illustrations for his new series of pop culture depictions. The artist infuses the classical Simpsons series with some 1980s crime drama. The illustrations are part of his ‘Popped Culture’ series, where he depicts several characters from popular kids shows and adds a realistic and disturbing facet to the characters. Similar to Luvisi previous works, the characters from Simpsons also have an interesting background story. In the story, Otto serves as the getaway driver for Homer and his gang for a heist. Lenny and Carl are two of Homer’s accomplices who are professional drug runners from Russia Graphic artists have created numerous cartoon character re-creations throughout the years, but there aren’t many that showcase a distinct sense of realism to them. Imagine a Simpsons series about real-life crime dramas. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 6.9/10 - Popularity: 100% | Activity: 100% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 70% men, 30% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Pop Culture](https://www.trendhunter.com/popculture) ## Key Themes ### What Makes This Trend Stand Out - **Realistic Cartoon Adaptations:** Opportunity for artists to create hyper-realistic illustrations of popular cartoons and add a darker, edgier aspect to them. - **Cross-genre Fusions:** Opportunity for creatives to combine elements from different genres, such as crime drama and cartoons, into new and exciting concepts. - **Character Background Stories:** Opportunity for artists to give backstories and deeper personalities to popular cartoon characters, allowing for more complex and engaging narratives. ### Sectors Adopting This - **Animation:** The animation industry can explore the trend of realistic cartoon adaptations and cross-genre fusions to create fresh and exciting content. - **Entertainment:** Entertainment companies can invest in projects that focus on character background stories and flesh out popular animated content into fully-realized worlds. - **Fine Arts:** Fine artists can be inspired by the trend of realistic cartoon adaptations and apply it to their own artwork, creating unique and engaging visuals. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Animated Streetwear Capsules](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-simpsons-x-family-mart.md) - [Cartoon Franchise-Inspired Clogs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-simpsons-classic-clog.md) - [Cartoon-Inspired Iconic Totes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/canvas-tote-bag.md) - [Graphic Fashion Animation Campaigns](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/superflat-animation.md) - [Revived Retro Animations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/stranger-things-animated-series.md) - [Cartoon-Inspired Puzzle Sets](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-simpsons-krusty-burger.md) - [Artistic Game-Inspired Figures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/louis-de-guzman-1.md) - [Cartoony Donut Timepieces](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/swatch-x-the-simpsons.md) - [Cartoonish Parental Timepieces](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/swatch-x-the-simpsons-watches.md)
