The Sima Pashtun rug is an intriguing piece of [home decor](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/textured-rug-design) that gives the awesome illusion that it is sinking into the ground like quicksand.

Designed by Armenian-born and Istanbul-raised duo Mauricio and Sebastián Lara, the Sima Pashtun rug takes a relatively [traditional carpet pattern](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/tartan-shuttle-weave-rug) and tweaks it thanks to a technologically enabled [optical illusion](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ripples-collection). Excellently executed by Odabashian Trading Corp., the Sima Pashtun rug is currently being exhibited at the Franz Mayer Museum in Mexico City.

The Sima Pashtun rug is specifically inspired by a Tibetan technique that was developed over 3000 years ago. It uses quality materials from New Zealand, Egypt and India.
