# Thunderous Data Losses Danger! Sidekick Information Dissipates in Microsoft Cloud Crash By Katie Cordrey | Published 2009-10-12 | Tech Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sidekick-microsoft-cloud-data-loss References: [appleinsider](http://www.appleinsider.com/articles/09/10/11/microsofts_danger_sidekick_data_loss_casts_dark_on_cloud_computing.html) Sync-dependent [Sidekick](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/wearable-mobility-device) owners are getting the bad news that their online data is probably permanently lost. Danger and its parent company [Microsoft](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/phone-link) suffered a server failure and apparently were not prepared for the inevitable rainy day that cloud computing brings. [T-Mobile](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/home-internet-backup) has promised to credit for a month’s worth of data service to active Sidekick owners, but that is of little comfort to those who are functioning in a state of cyber-amnesia due to the data loss. Users of cloud services, including iPhone owners with MobileMe, Exchange ActiveSync, Google Gmail/Calendar and so on should be sure that important data is backed up locally. Local backup may be the only silver lining in a cloud crash. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 2.7/10 - Popularity: 2% | Activity: 70% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 70% men, 30% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Tech](https://www.trendhunter.com/tech) > [Gadgets](https://www.trendhunter.com/gadgets) ## Key Themes ### What's Driving This Trend - **Data Loss in Cloud Computing:** There is a growing trend of data loss incidents in cloud computing, highlighting the need for better backup solutions and disaster recovery plans. - **Cyber-amnesia:** The phenomenon of cyber-amnesia is becoming a disruptive issue as more individuals rely on cloud storage, creating opportunities for data recovery and protection services. - **Importance of Local Backups:** The importance of maintaining local backups is a rising trend in response to the risks associated with cloud crashes and potential data loss. ### Who This Affects Most - **Cloud Computing Services:** The incidents of data loss in cloud computing present an opportunity for cloud service providers to offer improved backup and disaster recovery solutions. - **Data Recovery Services:** As data loss incidents increase, the demand for professional data recovery services grows, creating a disruptive opportunity in the industry. - **Backup Solutions Providers:** The need for reliable backup solutions is on the rise, leading to opportunities for providers who offer secure and efficient backup services. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Extensive Backup Solutions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/backup-solution.md) - [Automated Data Backup Tools](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/proton-drive.md) - [Dedicated Decentralized Cloud Servers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/functionland-box.md) - [Internet Outage Telecom Plans](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/home-internet-backup.md) - [Cloud SRP-Recovery Tools](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ledger.md) - [Automated Backup Cloud Systems](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/synology-beestation.md) - [Micro Data Care](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/micro-data-care.md) - [Social Media Backup Platforms](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/social-media-backup-platform.md) - [Data-Backup Phone Chargers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/qubii-power.md)
