# Angular Tube Lamps The SHY Light's Design was Inspired by Crystalline Forms By Matt Ho | Published 2011-03-17 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/shy-light References: [dezeen](http://www.dezeen.com/2011/03/17/shy-light-by-bec-brittain/#more-120662) & [mattermatters](http://www.mattermatters.com/product.asp?id=807) It may not look like your standard chandelier, but the SHY Light by Bec Brittain is still guaranteed to lighten up your home. Unlike most light fixtures, the SHY Light doesn't actually have a solid body. Instead, it's made from several conjoined LED tubes and rods, forming a [large geometric piece](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/polyshape-lamp). The light can be suspended in the air or it can be used as a simple [floor lamp](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/arc-lamp). The inspiration behind its unique look came from Brittain's experience in studying crystalline forms. The name itself has a personal touch with the letters of SHY being the initials of Brittain's grandmother according to MatterMatters.com. The SHY Light has a minimalist design but its inspiration and unconventional form truly sets itself apart from other [designer lights](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/chant). ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 1.1/10 - Popularity: 14% | Activity: 10% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 30% men, 70% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Geometric Light Fixtures:** Opportunity for designers to create unique, geometric-shaped lighting fixtures that stand out from traditional designs. - **LED Tube Lights:** The use of conjoined LED tubes offers a new way to create unique light fixtures with energy-efficient lighting technology. - **Crystal-inspired Designs:** Inspiration from crystal formations could bring new and interesting shapes for lighting design that stand out from traditional forms. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Home Decor:** Home decor companies could incorporate geometric light fixtures and crystal-inspired designs into their collections for a fresh, modern look. - **Lighting Design:** The use of LED tube lights and crystal-inspired designs could provide unique and energy-efficient options for lighting designers. - **Art Installations:** Designers could create large art installations using geometric light fixtures that add a modern touch to any space. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Sleek Structural Lighting Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/emotional-lab-light.md) - [Glowing Tubular Light Fixtures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/array-lighting.md) - [Dynamic Artful Light Fixtures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ghost-chandelier.md) - [Sculptural Metal Lighting](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/polyshape.md) - [Glassmaking Tubular Pendant Lights](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/flare-light.md) - [Hollow Candle-Like Table Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/lampe.md) - [Tubular Totem-Like Floor Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/alma-light-totem-i.md) - [Silkworm-Inspired Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/phantom-lighting.md) - [Simplistic Angular Desktop Illuminators](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/linear-table-lamp.md)
