Designed by [QinetiQ North America](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/lasercontrolled-military-drone), the Shoulder Worn Acoustic Targeting System is no bigger than a wallet and weighs less than a pound. Despite its diminutive size, however, the device has real strategic and life-saving potential. Using [advanced detection technology](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/thermal-monocular1), the Shoulder Worn Acoustic Targeting System can interpret shockwaves from a gun blast and provide an audio readout of the shooter's bearing and distance in mere seconds. So far, the device has already been purchased by the [U.S. Army](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/coconut-almond-bar) and Marine Corps, who will no doubt use it to help keep their soldiers in mountainous areas like Afghanistan one step ahead. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 3.1/10 - Popularity: 30% | Activity: 54% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 70% men, 30% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Tech](https://www.trendhunter.com/tech) > [Gadgets](https://www.trendhunter.com/gadgets) ## Key Themes ### Key Themes Behind This Trend - **Gunfire-detecting Devices:** The Shoulder Worn Acoustic Targeting System provides real-time audio readout of shooter's bearing and distance, enhancing situational awareness for soldiers. - **Portable Detection Technology:** The compact size and lightweight design of the Shoulder Worn Acoustic Targeting System opens up opportunities for portable detection devices in various industries. - **Shockwave Interpretation:** The advanced technology used in the Shoulder Worn Acoustic Targeting System showcases the potential for shockwave interpretation in other security and defense applications. ### Where This Applies - **Defense:** The Shoulder Worn Acoustic Targeting System disrupts the defense industry by providing an innovative solution to enhance soldier safety on the battlefield. - **Law Enforcement:** The real-time audio readout capability of the Shoulder Worn Acoustic Targeting System presents disruptive opportunities for law enforcement agencies in tracking and apprehending armed criminals. - **Outdoor Recreation:** The compact and lightweight design of the Shoulder Worn Acoustic Targeting System opens up possibilities for integrating similar detection technology in outdoor recreational activities to enhance safety. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Range-Roving Sniper Scopes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sniper-scope.md) - [Sound-Localizing Smartphone Cameras](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/soundcam-go.md) - [AI Threat Detection Services](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/zeroeyes.md) - [Discreet Portable Tasers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/taser-device.md) - [Thermal Camera Fire Detectors](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/early-fire-detection-sensor.md) - [Award-Winning Public Safety Technology](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/public-safety-technology.md) - [Biometric Smart Guns](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/biometric-smart-guns.md) - [PTSD-Aiding Wearable Technology](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/bio-ware.md) - [Fire Suppression Solutions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/fire-detection-and-suppression.md)
