# Shipped Parcel Monitors The DropTag Lets You Check a Sealed Package's Condition By Andrew Sztein | Published 2013-02-15 | Tech Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/shipped-parcel References: [laughingsquid](http://laughingsquid.com/droptag-sensor-that-monitors-whether-a-package-is-mishandled-during-transit/) & [cambridgeconsultants](http://www.cambridgeconsultants.com/) Have you ever received a shipped parcel that you could tell was handled the same way a cat handles a cornered mouse? This neat little gizmo now lets you check the status of the parcel before you even open the box. The DropTag from [Cambridge Consultants](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/wearable-injector) is an ingenious device that gets inserted into a shipped parcel and uses Bluetooth to communicate with a smartphone app. When the DropTag comes into range of a smartphone running the app, the user can check how much the package was bumped around during shipping. This opens up a whole new world for online shipping, as you wouldn't sign for a package if you saw it was mishandled in transit. The DropTag is currently under development, but could see a commercial release in the near future. I need to get my hands on one of these before I check my next bag at the airport. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 4.3/10 - Popularity: 43% | Activity: 79% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 70% men, 30% women - Primary generations: Gen Z, Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, South America, Europe, Asia, Africa ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Tech](https://www.trendhunter.com/tech) > [Gadgets](https://www.trendhunter.com/gadgets) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Smart Parcel Monitoring:** The integration of Bluetooth technology and smartphone apps revolutionizes parcel tracking by allowing users to monitor the condition of a package before opening it. - **Real-time Shipping Status:** The DropTag enables users to instantly check how much a package was bumped around during transit, providing valuable information for customers and businesses alike. - **Preventive Packaging Solutions:** The availability of DropTag could push companies to invest in more robust packaging materials or handling methods to protect packages during shipping, reducing instances of mishandling. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Logistics & Transportation:** Smart parcel monitoring technologies like DropTag have the potential to transform the logistics and transportation industry by improving transparency and reducing damages during shipping. - **E-commerce:** The integration of real-time shipping status into e-commerce platforms can enhance customer trust, leading to increased sales and customer satisfaction. - **Packaging:** The DropTag represents an opportunity for the packaging industry to innovate and develop more protective packaging solutions, ensuring the safe delivery of fragile or high-value products. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Luggage Tracking Safety Technologies](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/lost-luggage-tracker.md) - [Smartphone Retail Security Tags](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/safe-tag.md) - [Discreet Trackable Suitcases](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/qantas-x-july.md) - [Trackable Smart Luggage](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/casesafe.md) - [Location-Tracking Luggage Locks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/taglock-travel-lock.md) - [Courier Tracking Platforms](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/tagtail.md) - [In-App Baggage-Tracking Features](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/air-canada-mobile-app.md) - [Trackable Travel Luggage](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/tag-smart-collection-by-samsara.md) - [Location-Tracking Package Labels](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/gd-smart-label.md)
