# Gravity-Defying Trees Shinji Turner-Yamamoto's 'Hanging Garden' Soars in Cincinnati By Brian G Randles | Published 2010-10-22 | Eco Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/shinji-turner-yamamoto References: [visualingual.wordpress](http://visualingual.wordpress.com/2010/10/11/hanging-garden-by-shinji turner-yamamoto/) & [wn](http://wn.com/global_tree_project_hanging_garden__shinji_turner-yamamoto) This absolutely tremendous [Hanging Garden sculpture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/calder-gardens) by Shinji Turner-Yamamoto was recently installed in the abandoned [Holy Cross Church](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/holy-syrup-bottle) of Cincinnati, Ohio. The seemingly levitating earthly artwork consists of a living tree supported by an inverted and uprooted dead tree. The whole thing is suspended in the deserted [Queen City](http://www.wisegeek.com/why-is-cincinnati-known-as-the-queen-city.htm) church, and is part of the artist's larger [Global Tree Project](http://globaltreeproject.org/). Shinji Turner-Yamamoto says "By taking tree out of its natural context, I invite viewers to experience nature in a novel more contemplative way.” Very cool. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 5.5/10 - Popularity: 70% | Activity: 86% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial - Top markets: North America, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Eco](https://www.trendhunter.com/eco) ## Key Themes ### What Makes This Trend Stand Out - **Living Sculptures:** The trend of creating living sculptures is a disruptive innovation opportunity for artists and landscape architects to merge art and nature in a unique way. - **Inverted Trees:** The use of inverted trees in artwork presents a disruptive innovation opportunity for interior designers and art installations to challenge traditional perceptions and create a sense of paradox. - **Contemplative Art:** The trend of creating contemplative art installations provides a disruptive innovation opportunity for artists and exhibition organizers to create immersive experiences that encourage viewers to reflect and connect with nature. ### Sectors Adopting This - **Art:** The art industry can explore the use of living sculptures and inverted tree installations to offer unique and thought-provoking experiences to art enthusiasts, pushing the boundaries of traditional art forms. - **Landscape Architecture:** The landscape architecture industry can embrace the trend of living sculptures to incorporate nature into urban environments, creating visually stunning and eco-conscious designs that transform public spaces. - **Interior Design:** The interior design industry can adopt the use of inverted trees as a disruptive design element, adding a sense of whimsy and surprise to residential and commercial spaces, challenging conventional design norms. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Outdoor Floral Sculpture Installations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sculptures-at-kew-gardens.md) - [Monumental Air Installation](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/iwagumi-air-scape.md) - [Lightning-Inspired Artful Exhibitions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/bright-light-shining.md) - [Nature-Inspired Installations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/humannature-1.md) - [3D-Printed Ethereal Floating Sculptures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/prairie-cord.md) - [Vaulted Structural Telescopic Treehouse](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/artistree-home.md) - [Nature-Inspired Artful Garden Installations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/henderson-art-garden.md) - [Cutout Christmas Tree Displays](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/christmas-tree-display.md) - [Air-Purifying Tree Sculptures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/treeone.md)
