# Dancing Smartphone Docks The Shimi Android Stand Grooves Along to the Music By Sarah Moore | Published 2012-06-28 | Tech Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/shimi-android-stand References: [gizmag](http://www.gizmag.com/shimi-robotic-smartphone-dock/23105/) & [gatech.edu](http://www.gatech.edu/newsroom/release.html?nid=137351) If you need a DJ for your next party you might want to consider giving the Shimi Android stand a call to keep the beats blasting all night long. Dubbed by its creator Professor Gil Weinberg as a "[musical companion](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sharp-poketomo)," the robot plays songs from the attached Android device and dances along with the beat. Thanks to its built-in camera, the robot can also determine if the track it has selected is getting the party going or not and can switch up the song accordingly. If party-goers clap their hands to a beat, the Shimi will keep playing songs that correspond to the beat of the clapping. The [dancing droid](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/robosen-soundwave) also ensures that the music follows you no matter where you go in the room and tilts its head and speakers toward you as you move around. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 3.5/10 - Popularity: 59% | Activity: 38% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Gen Z, Millennial - Top markets: North America ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Tech](https://www.trendhunter.com/tech) > [Mobile](https://www.trendhunter.com/mobile) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Smartphone Dock Robots:** The integration of robots and smartphone docks opens up opportunities for interactive entertainment and personalized experiences. - **Musical Companions:** The trend of creating robots that can dance and interact with music is emerging as a potential niche market for the entertainment industry. - **Smart DJ Systems:** Incorporating AI and machine learning, the development of smart DJ systems can revolutionize the way music is selected, played, and enjoyed. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Consumer Electronics:** Consumer electronics companies can explore the potential of integrating robots and AI in their products to enhance user experience. - **Entertainment:** The entertainment industry can leverage dancing robot technology to innovate new forms of interactive entertainment and personalized experiences for consumers. - **Artificial Intelligence:** The emerging trend of smart DJ systems presents disruptive innovation opportunities for AI companies to develop and integrate machine learning algorithms for music selection and curation. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Music-Streaming Personal Robots](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/gitamini-limited-edition.md) - [Engaging Musical Humanoid Toys](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/toy-robot-concept.md) - [Robotic Desktop Companions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/robot-concept.md) - [Mood-Powered Smartphone Speakers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/mixx-speaker.md) - [Shifting Orientation Smartphone Docks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/smartphone-stand-charger.md) - [Finger-Focused Dancing Video Games](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/orb-finger-dance-machine.md) - [AI-Powered Smartphone Photography Docks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/pivo-pod-x.md) - [Robotic Companion Smartphone Models](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/honor-robot-phone.md) - [Automated AI Smartphone Stabilizers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/smove-pro-mobile-x.md)
