Each year, over the course of one week, an audacious fashion event called the [Shibuya Girls Bunkasai](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/renovated-fashion-store) is held at the ground zero of Japan's style district, the [Parco Shopping Mall](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/beams-japan). This year's shopping spree, which targets adolescent women especially, has used a salacious, yet admittedly enjoyable [marketing ploy](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/mwcurated) to attract local interest: pole dancers!

In the cavernous foyer of the Shibuya Parco Mall, cleverly-costumed women pirouetted and pranced across a lit stage, showing off their deft moves and referential disguises. The purpose: to spread word of the Shibuya Girls Bunkasai, an annual shopping event aimed at younger girls -- considering the crowd, however, you might middle-aged salary men were the target demographic! Although pole dancing may not be your idea of an ingenious marketing tool, it certainly generated considerable buzz in a city which typically shies away from open displays of sexuality. The burlesque appeal of the dancers, perfectly timed with Halloween, proved the ability of pole dancing to draw a crowd in.
