There's now a safer way to use scissors for alternative tasks, and no reason to bother stocking up on [multiple sharp-edged utensils](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/smith-blade). Sonia Covarrubias-Garcia designed this [flexible utility knife](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sliding-knife), which is now being manufactured by Quirky. Unlike most implements of its vague sort, this one has one extra [broad thumb hole handle](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ergomatically-shaped-scissors-ergomatically-shaped-scissors-with-a-bat-desi) that integrates a generous slot up its side. This gap accommodates the retraction of the upper blade, containing it and keeping its honed edge covered. This enables you to grip the Sheath Scissors safely and use the single knife-like side for all sorts of purposes. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 0.4/10 - Popularity: 2% | Activity: 3% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### Key Themes Behind This Trend - **Multi-functional Tools:** The Sheath Scissors combines multiple sharp-edged utensils into one, creating an opportunity for disruptive innovation in the multi-functional tools market. - **Safety-centric Design:** The gap on the side of the Sheath Scissors that accommodates the retraction of the upper blade creates an opportunity for disruptive innovation in safety-centric design. - **Flexible Utility Knives:** The Sheath Scissors' flexible design and single knife-like side create an opportunity for disruptive innovation in the utility knives market. ### Where This Applies - **Office Supplies and Stationery:** The Sheath Scissors' multi-functional capabilities make it a potential game changer in the office supplies and stationery industry. - **Tools and Hardware:** The Sheath Scissors' flexible design and safety-centric features make it a potential disruptor in the tools and hardware industry. - **Outdoor Gear and Equipment:** The Sheath Scissors' multi-functional capabilities and safety-centric design make it a potential game changer in the outdoor gear and equipment industry. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Durably Designed Box Cutters](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/multifunctional-box-opener.md) - [Compact Utility Knives](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/bq-s1-utility.md) - [Advanced Modular Multi-Tool Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/flex-shears.md) - [Precision Utility Knives](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/bq-s1.md) - [Easily Serviced Utility Knives](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/toughbuilt-reload-utility-knife.md) - [Minimalist Two-in-One Scissors](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/twoinone-scissors.md) - [Structural Box Cutter Concepts](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/split-box-cutter.md) - [Folding Multitool-Like Saws](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/toughbuilt-folding-pull-saw.md) - [Transforming Pocket Tools](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/hatchblade.md)
