# Manual Precision Sharpeners The 'Osciblade' Can Sharpen Pencils with Precision without Electricity By Michael Hemsworth | Published 2017-04-17 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sharpen-pencils References: [yankodesign](http://www.yankodesign.com/2017/04/14/old-technique-new-sharpener/) The 'Osciblade' is designed to sharpen pencils and/or crayons with total precision by using manual power and manipulation. The unit is designed with the basic aesthetic of a [traditional pencil sharpener](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/pencil-multitap) in mind but with a distinctive deviation that ensures precision results. This is thanks to the [single blade](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/bq-s1) that is utilized to carve the writing utensil rather than twist and shave it for a more antiquated approach to keeping your equipment ready for use. The 'Osciblade' could potentially extended the life of your [writing utensils](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/zenith7-desk-pen) by being able to sharpen pencils on a far more precision basis rather than when just one part requires it. The 'Osciblade' is the design work of Nirmayee Rode and comes as an old-fashioned response to new designs that just don't cut it. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 2.2/10 - Popularity: 43% | Activity: 15% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Gen Z, Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### What's Driving This Trend - **Manual Precision Sharpeners:** The 'Osciblade' offers a manual approach to precision sharpening without electricity. - **Extended Lifespan of Writing Utensils:** The 'Osciblade' allows for precise sharpening on a regular basis, prolonging the lifespan of pencils and crayons. - **Antiquated Design for Modern Needs:** The 'Osciblade' provides a more traditional and precise sharpening option, countering modern designs. ### Who This Affects Most - **Stationery Manufacturing:** The 'Osciblade' opens up opportunities for stationery manufacturers to provide innovative manual precision sharpeners. - **Education Supplies:** In the education supplies industry, the 'Osciblade' offers a unique and efficient way to sharpen pencils and crayons. - **Office Equipment:** The 'Osciblade' presents a disruptive innovation opportunity for office equipment manufacturers by offering an alternative to electric pencil sharpeners. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Vertical Pencil Sharpening Tools](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/pencil-sharpener-1.md) - [Self-Sharpening Coloring Pencils](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/infinity-colouring-pencils.md) - [Pencil Shaving-Inspired Illuminators](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sharpener-lampshades.md) - [Everlasting Metal Pencils](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/metal-pencil.md) - [Recycled Plastic Writing Utensils](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/mechanical-drop-pencil.md) - [Advanced Ultrasonic Hobby Knives](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/hozo-design-neoblade.md) - [Sculptural Writing Tools](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/experimental-pencils.md) - [Stone-Grip Conical Pencils](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/aluminum-sphere.md) - [Spinning Desk Sharpeners](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ferfereh.md)
