As its apt name suggests, its potential shape is unfixed and thus boundless. The [Verge](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/performancedriven-gaming-peripherals) reports, "With Sharp's new tech, that circuitry is spread throughout the display, allowing for not only very thin bezels, but also a potentially infinite number of shapes." Although currently focused on [vehicle-focused designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/smart-cockpit-technology), the Sharp Free-Form Display can be adapted for smaller devices. Opening up a range of possibilities in terms of design, the Japanese company has potentially changed the way people think of technology to date. Of course, stepping away from the traditional rectangular form to a round one, for instance, will require extensive software modification. Yet the Sharp Free-Form Display will inspire someone to take a stab at it. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 6.3/10 - Popularity: 86% | Activity: 94% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Tech](https://www.trendhunter.com/tech) > [Mobile](https://www.trendhunter.com/mobile) ## Key Themes ### What's Driving This Trend - **Flexible Display Technology:** Sharp's Free-Form Display opens up new possibilities for flexible and adaptable display designs. - **Bezel-less Touchscreens:** The integration of circuitry throughout the display allows for thinner bezels and potentially infinite shapes. - **Design Innovation:** The Sharp Free-Form Display encourages new approaches to technology design, breaking away from traditional rectangular forms. ### Who This Affects Most - **Consumer Electronics:** The flexible display technology can revolutionize smartphones, tablets, and other consumer electronic devices. - **Automotive:** The Sharp Free-Form Display has initial applications in vehicle-focused designs, leading to enhanced user experiences in car displays and infotainment systems. - **Advertising and Signage:** The ability to create unique shapes and forms with the Sharp Free-Form Display opens up new opportunities for innovative advertising displays and signage. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Malleable Stretching Displays](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/stretchable-display.md) - [Organic Flexible Displays](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/flexible-olcd.md) - [Script-Like Foldable Display Screens](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/rollable-flex.md) - [Wrap-Around Display Smartphones](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/motorolas-wraparound.md) - [Fully-Flexibile Monitor Displays](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/flexible-display-campus.md) - [Transforming Smart Display Concepts](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/concept-display.md) - [Malleable Wearable Smartphones](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/motorola-adaptive-display-concept.md) - [Cutting-Edge Display Technologies](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/cuttingedge-display-technologies.md) - [Gen Z-Targeting Display Concepts](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/display-concept1.md)
