Even the most basic [floor lamp](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/1953-floor-lamp) has been contrived to look the way it does; Ol'ha Shevchenko has simply chosen to make her product a [fully fledged sculpture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/polyshape). Emulating the anatomical shape of a large carnivorous fish, the designer molded just the back half, complete with the dorsal fin, the anal fin and the tail. Robust aluminum material produces an especially strong appearance, and its glossy blue finish makes it looks slick from the sea. A pedal on the floor lets the user turn the Shark Tail Floor Lamp off and on, illuminating bulbs that glow from in behind. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 2.8/10 - Popularity: 53% | Activity: 24% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Gen Z, Gen Alpha, Millennial - Top markets: North America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### Key Themes Behind This Trend - **Marine-inspired Lighting:** Design trends that imbue lighting fixtures with marine aesthetics has the potential to disrupt the lighting industry. - **Functional Sculptures:** The creation of lighting fixtures as fully-realized works of art can lead to the emergence of new and potentially lucrative markets for niche home decor. - **Innovative Floor Lamps:** Redesigning the traditional floor lamp into a more visually and functionally engaging fixture can lead to the emergence of new lighting design motifs. ### Where This Applies - **Lighting Design:** Incorporating animal anatomy-themed design elements on lighting fixtures can pioneer a new direction in the lighting industry. - **Home Decor:** Creating home decor that double as functional, living art pieces may establish a new market for innovative home products. - **Sculpture Design:** Embracing the use of nontraditional mediums, materials, and design motifs gives the lighting design industry a unique opportunity to cultivate collaborations with artists and expand their product line. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Creature-Like Floor Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-pink-robots-won.md) - [Sea Creature Study Desks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/pirate-shark-study-desk.md) - [3D-Printed Aquatic Life Illuminators](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/wooj-design-wavy-lamp.md) - [Recycled Leather Illuminators](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/corium-standing-floor-lamp.md) - [Daylight-Mimicking Floor Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/brighter-floor-lamp.md) - [Sculptural Lunar Lighting Solutions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/moonsetter-floor-lamp.md) - [Cutesy Coiled Floor Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-helix-lamp.md) - [Plant-Inspired Table Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/palmetto-lamp.md) - [Tornado-Inspired Illuminator Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/storm-lamp.md)
