# Geometrically Abstract Art Galleries The Shandong Art Gallery's Facade Has Oblong Cut-Outs By Joey Haar | Published 2017-08-08 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/shandong-art-gallery References: [archdaily](http://www.archdaily.com/877095/shandong-art-gallery-tjad) Museum's have a rich history of [creative architecture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/studio-for-architecture), and the Shandong Art Gallery in Shandong, China, is no exception. The 52,000 square meter gallery is a testament to forward-thinking building design, with a monolithic figure that's creatively offset by oblong, geometric cut-outs throughout the facade and interior. Considering the avant-garde nature of the items they're built to hold, architects have often ventured to make museums look just as attractive and striking. The [Guggenheim Museum in New York](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/princeton-university-art-museum) is one such example; its smoothly rounded design was revolutionary at the time it was built, and it stands up as one of Frank Lloyd Wright's masterpieces. The Shandong Art Gallery is yet more proof that [building a museum](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/museum-of-modern-art) can be a chance for architects to explore and create in a way they might not be able to otherwise. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 2.1/10 - Popularity: 51% | Activity: 4% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Architecture](https://www.trendhunter.com/architecture) ## Key Themes ### What's Driving This Trend - **Creative Architecture in Museums:** Explore innovative architectural designs in museums to create visually striking and attractive spaces. - **Avant-garde Museum Designs:** Push the boundaries of museum architecture by incorporating unique and unconventional design elements. - **Exploring Architectural Possibilities in Museums:** Opportunity to experiment with building design and showcase creativity in museum constructions. ### Who This Affects Most - **Architecture:** Architects can embrace disruptive design approaches in museum constructions. - **Art and Culture:** Innovative museum architecture can enhance the overall experience and create a visually captivating environment. - **Construction:** Opportunity to partner with architects and explore new building techniques for modern museums. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Art Museum Architecture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/xiao-feng-art-museum.md) - [Color-Shifting Art Museums](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-quartet-songzhuang-z-museum.md) - [Temple-Inspired Striking Galleries](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/abin-design-studio.md) - [Infinity Loop-Shaped Museums](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/yohoo-museum.md) - [Swooped Museum Roof Planes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/suzhou-museum-of-contemporary-art.md) - [Environmentally Harmonious Museums](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/naoshima-new-museum-of-art.md) - [Dynamic Installation Science Museums](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/hainan-science-museum.md) - [Curved Green Roof-Topped Museums](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sunner-museum.md) - [Wave-Like Structural Art Centers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/zibo-oct.md)
