Titled Shams 1, the Abu Dhabi location will churn out 100 MW, powering up to 20,000 homes. The plant comes at the tail end of two years spent in construction, an endeavor that cost over $600 million. While Shams 1 is the biggest solar facility built thus far, two companies based in California have unveiled plans to erect [solar towers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/solar-tower-1) that will emit 500 MW, providing enough power for approximately 200,000 homes.
