# Bulbous Oil Lamps Oyula by Sergio Silva is a Modern Twist on Traditional Lighting By Francis Tiangson | Published 2011-03-10 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sergio-silva References: [mymodernmet](http://www.mymodernmet.com/profiles/blogs/7-standout-desk-accessories) & [sergiosilva.us](http://www.sergiosilva.us/) Oyula by Sergio Silva is an intriguing light piece that transforms [contemporary light bulbs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/jal) into tradition oil lamps. The modern day item normally is filled with a filament that illuminates from the inside. The Oyula by Sergio Silva is instead filled with [paraffin oil](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/infra-luna-20) and a fiber glass wick producing light in a more primitive way--through fire. Sergio Silva's creation means that even in a blackout, people can still count on light bulbs to be a source of light. You could replace all the [candles in your house](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/magma-lamp) with Oyula and be prepared for a power outage. Sergio Silva has definitely changed the way that a standard light bulb provides the same function, although it probably does not have the same amount of stamina. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 3.4/10 - Popularity: 34% | Activity: 60% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 30% men, 70% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Home](https://www.trendhunter.com/home) ## Key Themes ### What's Driving This Trend - **Modern Oil Lamps:** The trend for modern oil lamps presents opportunities for designers to recreate a traditional lighting device with a modern twist. - **Alternative Light Sources:** The trend for alternative light sources allows for new ways to produce light without the need for electricity. - **Emergency Lighting:** The trend for emergency lighting presents opportunities for creating sustainable and practical lighting solutions for power outages. ### Who This Affects Most - **Interior Design:** The interior design industry can benefit from the trend for modern oil lamps as it offers new ways to incorporate traditional lighting into contemporary spaces. - **Sustainability:** The sustainability industry can benefit from the trend for alternative light sources as it presents an opportunity to reduce reliance on electricity and create sustainable lighting solutions. - **Emergency Preparedness:** The emergency preparedness industry can benefit from the trend for emergency lighting by creating and promoting practical and sustainable solutions for power outages. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Quirky Common Item Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/table-lamp-lighter.md) - [Sustainable Solar Portable Lights](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/iggy-lamp.md) - [Modernized Antique-Style Desk Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/odina-table-lamp.md) - [Sculptural Glass Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/tuloa.md) - [Hollow Candle-Like Table Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/lampe.md) - [Touch-Enhanced Glass Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/bolita.md) - [Oversized Pen Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/bic-lamp.md) - [Ethereal Oil Lamp Systems](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/a-realm-of-light.md) - [Lantern-Like Light Units](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/light-kyeol-series.md)
