# Refreshing Indoor Lighting Cloud Cast Takes Cues from Senseable City to Make Interiors Responsive By Laura McQuarrie | Published 2015-02-16 | Eco Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/senseable-city References: [psfk](http://www.psfk.com/2015/02/mit-cloud-cast-air-conditioner-future.html) & [carloratti](http://www.carloratti.com/project/cloud-cast/) Senseable City is an [MIT](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/3dprinted-trusses) lab project that envisions environments of the future becoming more responsive to our needs through the use of technologies like sensors, mobile electronics and wearables. Inspired by this, architect Carlo Ratti created Cloud Cast, a series of [illuminated rods](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/suspended-lighting-installation) that release a light mist when you're passing by. While this concept is probably familiar to you if you've been to an amusement park on a super hot day and found an oasis in a [misting station](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/dreo-turbocool-misting-fan-series), Cloud Cast proposes racking heat and motion through lamps and motors to deliver hyper-localized sprays, so that energy and water are used sparingly. Although this idea is still very much in the conceptual stages, the refreshing Cloud Cast made a debut in Dubai, where it was likely much appreciated even in indoor settings. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 5.1/10 - Popularity: 67% | Activity: 79% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial - Top markets: Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Eco](https://www.trendhunter.com/eco) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Responsive Interiors:** Cloud Cast's use of sensors and technology to create a responsive indoor environment presents opportunities for creating more interactive and personalized spaces. - **Hyper-localized Sprays:** The concept of using lamps and motors to deliver hyper-localized mist sprays opens up possibilities for energy and water conservation in indoor environments. - **Conceptualized Lighting Innovations:** The Cloud Cast project showcases how conceptual lighting ideas can blend technology, architecture, and sustainability to create unique and refreshing indoor experiences. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Architecture:** The Cloud Cast project highlights the potential for architects to explore new ways of integrating lighting and technology to enhance indoor spaces. - **Technology:** Cloud Cast's use of sensors and motion technology presents opportunities for the development of innovative lighting solutions for indoor environments. - **Sustainability:** The concept of hyper-localized sprays in Cloud Cast offers an avenue for the sustainability industry to explore energy and water conservation in indoor settings. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Custom Scent-Altering Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/moodmist.md) - [Running Cooling Mist Concepts](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/cooling-mist-1.md) - [Smoky Illumination Floor Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sunset-lamp.md) - [Emotional Light Sculptures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/miror-collection.md) - [Futuristic Immersive Lighting Experiences](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/immersive-lighting-experience.md) - [Window-Emulating Lighting Solutions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/window-chronicles.md) - [Illuminated Curtained Light Installations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/making-the-invisible-visible.md) - [Organic Cloud-Like Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/khmara.md) - [Window-Imitating Smart Light Panels](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/vindow.md)
