According to the brand, this is the first [plant-based dog food](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/university-of-nottingham) of its kind that's specifically targeted toward senior dogs. "When our own dog entered his golden years, however, we noticed the plant-based category was lacking in options for seniors,” said CEO and Co-Founder Garrett Wymore. The pet-pleasing Baked Pumpkin & Peanut Butter Flavor is full of functional ingredients like applesauce and odor-fighting herbs, plus DHA omega-3 from algae oil, curcumin extract from turmeric and dietary fiber from pumpkin, as well as [plant-based glucosamine](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/wagwell-ahiflower-omega-oil). As an alternative to dog foods that are marked as suitable for all life stages, this one is optimized for dogs' changing metabolic needs with the right levels of fat, fiber, vitamins, minerals and protein. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 2.3/10 - Popularity: 23% | Activity: 30% | Freshness: 16% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial - Top markets: North America ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Lifestyle](https://www.trendhunter.com/lifestyle) > [Pets](https://www.trendhunter.com/pets) ## Key Themes ### What Makes This Trend Stand Out - **Plant-based Senior Pet Food:** The creation of plant-based pet food formulas that meet the specific needs of senior pets presents an opportunity for pet food manufacturers to target a growing demographic of pet owners looking for alternative nutritional options. - **Functional Ingredients in Pet Foods:** The use of functional ingredients, such as curcumin extract and omega-3 from algae oil in pet foods, provides opportunities for manufacturers to offer pet owners an innovative alternative to traditional pet foods. - **Age-defying Pet Food:** The development of pet food formulas that include age-defying nutrients and meet the changing metabolic needs of aging pets presents an opportunity for manufacturers to target a growing demographic of pet owners seeking products that promote healthy aging. ### Sectors Adopting This - **Pet Food Manufacturing:** The pet food manufacturing industry can leverage the trend of plant-based and functional pet foods to create new product lines targeting pet owners looking for alternative nutritional options for their senior pets. - **Veterinary Services:** The veterinary services industry can benefit from the trend of age-defying pet food by offering innovative nutritional advice and promoting the use of premium pet foods to promote healthy aging in pets. - **Plant-based Food Industry:** The rise of plant-based pet food presents opportunities for the plant-based food industry to expand its market by targeting pet owners looking for alternative nutritional options for their pets. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Allergy-Friendly Vegan Dog Foods](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/hownd-plant-powered-superfood.md) - [Pet-Focused Plant-Based Recipes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/plantbased-recipes-for-dogs.md) - [No-Meat Dog Meals](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/pawco.md) - [Plant-Based Dog Foods](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/kind-earth.md) - [Planet-Friendly Dog Foods](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-pack.md) - [Plant-Powered Kibbles](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/wild-earth-dog-food.md) - [Functional Plant-Based Dog Foods](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/herbie-wilde.md) - [Plant-Powered Wet Dog Foods](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/wet-food-for-dogs.md) - [Balanced Vegan Dog Foods](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/omni-vegan-dog-food.md)
