# Artist-Honoring Illustrations Selman Hoşgör Payed Tribute to David Bowie with a Vibrant Art Series By Riley von Niessen | Published 2016-07-07 | Pop Culture Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/selman-hogr References: [fubiz.net](http://www.fubiz.net/en/2016/07/05/graphic-series-of-david-bowie/) & [behance.net](https://www.behance.net/hosgorselman) An Istanbul-based freelance graphic designer named Selman Hoşgör used the late David Bowie as the subject for an [honorary art series](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/keiichi-tanaami-1). The artist has a skill for blending photo-real illustrations with vibrant cartoon-like backgrounds and colors, a theme that was previously seen in his '[Famous Writers' collection](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sonic-editions) as well. With his David Bowie renditions, Selman Hoşgör shows [black and white imagery](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/glass-portraits) of the artist performing with his name superimposing in a whimsical typeface. With this, the lettering looks like abstract music notes as much as it does David Bowie's name. In one of the pieces, Selman Hoşgör replaces the instrument being played with the letter D, making it look as though a harp is being played. Another does the same but with a guitar instead. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 3.7/10 - Popularity: 73% | Activity: 29% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Pop Culture](https://www.trendhunter.com/popculture) > [Celebs](https://www.trendhunter.com/celebs) ## Key Themes ### Key Themes Behind This Trend - **Vibrant Art Series:** Opportunity for artists to create vibrant and visually appealing art series that pay tribute to influential figures or themes. - **Blending Realism with Cartoon-like Imagery:** Potential for artists and designers to combine photo-real illustrations with vibrant, whimsical backgrounds to create visually striking artworks. - **Innovative Typography Designs:** Chance for graphic designers to experiment with typography by creating abstract letterforms that convey multiple meanings and represent the subject matter. ### Where This Applies - **Art and Design:** Disruptive innovation opportunity for artists, graphic designers, and illustrators to explore new techniques and styles. - **Entertainment and Media:** Potential for utilizing vibrant art series and visually striking designs for promotional materials, album covers, and other media-related content. - **Fashion and Merchandising:** Possibility for incorporating vibrant, cartoon-like imagery into clothing designs, accessories, and merchandise inspired by iconic figures or themes. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Singer-Dedicated Streets](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/david-bowie-street.md) - [Glamorous Rockstar-Inspired Dolls](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/david-bowie-doll.md) - [Rockstar-Inspired Instant Film Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/for-the-rebel-rebels.md) - [Iconic Band Apparel Series](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/freaks-store-2.md) - [Collectable Singer-Honoring Coins](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/george-michael-coin.md) - [Luxurious Ephemeral Art Galleries](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sho-shibuya.md) - [Artist-Inspired Sweaters](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/lee-x-basquiat.md) - [Painter-Inspired Afternoon Teas](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/david-hockney-afternoon-teas.md) - [Interactive Colorful Art Exhibits](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/david-hockney-bigger-closer.md)
