The unit consists of a two-part design, which includes a barrel-like wheel section that attaches onto the upper frame. When paired together, these components form a wheelchair perfect for getting around in a motorized manner. The upper frame, however, can also be detached from the wheel base to work as a walker when desired. The conceptual 'COBI' self-driving wheelchair is the design work of Hyeon Park, Haeun Jung, Hyuntae Kim and Sookyoung Ahn, and maintains a modern aesthetic. This could help to increase the appeal of the mobility device for those who might not like how existing [walkers or wheelchairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/roami) look. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 5.1/10 - Popularity: 85% | Activity: 56% | Freshness: 12% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Top markets: Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Lifestyle](https://www.trendhunter.com/lifestyle) ## Key Themes ### Key Themes Behind This Trend - **Modular Senior Mobility Solutions:** Innovative modular mobility solutions for seniors that can transform from a wheelchair to a walker offer convenience and efficiency with multi-functional designs. - **Self-driving Wheelchairs:** Self-driving wheelchairs equipped with intuitive technology offer seniors increased independence and mobility with innovative features like obstacle detection and voice control. - **Modern Senior Mobility Devices:** There is a growing demand for modern, aesthetically pleasing mobility devices for seniors, presenting a disruptive opportunity for manufacturers to create devices that are both functional and fashionable. ### Where This Applies - **Mobility Device Manufacturing:** Mobility device manufacturers can invest in R&D to create modular, self-driving and modern mobility devices to meet the demand of the aging baby boomer population. - **Aging in Place Technology:** New technologies like self-driving and modular mobility devices offer disruptive innovation opportunities for companies in the aging in place technology sector to create convenient and efficient devices for seniors. - **Healthcare Equipment Distribution:** Companies specializing in the distribution of healthcare equipment can capitalize on the growing demand for modern mobility devices and offer innovative products to meet the needs of the aging population. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Friendly Robotic Wheelchair Caregivers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/wheelchair-robot-concept.md) - [Adaptive Mobility Scooters](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/wimo-scooter.md) - [Senior-Supporting Mobility Skateboards](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/modular-mobility-skateboard.md) - [Accesible Autonomous Transportation Services](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/autonomous-mobility-service.md) - [Sleek Senior Walker Concepts](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/suzuki-go.md) - [Robotic Movement-Interpreting Wheelchairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/honda-unione.md) - [Sleek Robotic Wheelchair Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/robotic-wheelchair.md) - [Smartphone-Controlled Mobility Seats](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/gosolo-personal-mobility-device.md) - [Demurely Designed Mobility Aids](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/folding-rollator-concept.md)
