# Segway With Legs The Cajun Crawler Redefines Geeky Personal Transit By Alex Covert | Published 2009-03-16 | Unique Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/segway-with-legs-cajun-crawler References: [ohgizmo](http://www.ohgizmo.com/2009/03/16/cajun-crawler-is-like-a-walking-segway/) Sometimes… just sometimes, you have to reinvent the wheel, or in this case, the legs. A group of students from the [University of Louisiana](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/airground-amphibious-quadruped-robots) built this Segway-ish [scooter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/wimo-scooter) (can it be called that?) with [insect-like legs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/lynx-m20-pro) instead of the traditional rolling wheels. The Cajun Crawler, as it’s called, was inspired by [Theo Jansen’s leg mechanism](http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WcR7U2tuNoY). Watch it go. **Implications** - The concept of mobility is one that will only develop as the digitized consumer seeks more and more ways to save themselves from any kind of manual labor. Inventions such as the Cajun Crawler even go so far as to save a perfectly healthy consumer from walking, proving that today's average adult doesn't want to do anything themselves if not necessary. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 3.4/10 - Popularity: 18% | Activity: 76% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 70% men, 30% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Unique](https://www.trendhunter.com/unique) > [Inventions](https://www.trendhunter.com/inventions) ## Key Themes ### Key Themes Behind This Trend - **Legged Personal Transit:** Innovative personal transportation devices that use legs instead of wheels or traditional transport mechanisms. - **Digitized Mobility:** Growing demand for intelligent and digitally connected personal mobility devices that streamline transportation capabilities for both leisure and work. - **Reinventing Transportation:** New designs and innovations that focus on improving urban transportation experiences through multifunctional and dynamic mobility solutions. ### Where This Applies - **Personal Transportation:** Companies that design and manufacture innovative personal mobility devices that revolutionize how people get around. - **Robotics:** Developers and manufacturers of legged robots and other intelligent transportation devices that leverage robotics technology to create new and unique solutions for mobility. - **Smart City Infrastructure:** Providers of cutting-edge smart city technology solutions that enable the deployment of advanced transportation systems and infrastructure projects for better urban living. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Maneuverable Centipede Robots](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/centipede-robot.md) - [Crawling Dynamic Coffee Tables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/carpentopod.md) - [Wheel-Free Assisted Mobility Chairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/toyota-walk-me.md) - [Single-Wheeled Modular Concepts](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-naowheel.md) - [Quadruped Robot Electric Bikes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/suzuki-moqba.md) - [Hybrid Movement Robots](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/leo-robot.md) - [Two-in-One Scooter Bikes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/popup-scooter.md) - [Walking Assistance Roller Skates](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/smart-roller-skates.md) - [Smartphone-Controlled Mobility Seats](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/gosolo-personal-mobility-device.md)
