# Seesaw-Inspired Benches The 2toTango Seesaw Bench Encourages Social Interactions in Public Spaces By Mary Van Puymbroeck | Published 2017-06-29 | Lifestyle Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/seesawinspired-bench References: [core77](http://www.core77.com/posts/67085/This-Seesaw-Inspired-Bench-Takes-Two-to-Tango) & [lunar](http://www.lunar.com/) The 2toTango seesaw-inspired bench was designed by 'Lunar' cofounders Jeff Smith and Gerard Furbershaw. The designers were looking for a way to bring out the innate sense of socialization and play people have inside of them, but in a [public space](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/us-her-him). Taking inspiration from a seesaw, the duo created a [sophisticated bench](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/bench-for-two) that would look just as great in a park as it would a fine art gallery. They designed the bench to have a teetering motion but to move more slowly, as to not damage the bench or catch someone off guard. The seesaw-inspired bench will shift in relation to how two people interact on it -- for instance, if one person moves closer, the bench will shift. The 2toTango bench is just as much a [social experiment](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/buddy-bench1) as it is beautiful to look at. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 2.5/10 - Popularity: 55% | Activity: 11% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Lifestyle](https://www.trendhunter.com/lifestyle) > [Life](https://www.trendhunter.com/life) ## Key Themes ### What Makes This Trend Stand Out - **Seesaw-inspired Furniture:** Opportunity for creating innovative furniture designs that incorporate interactive and social elements, encouraging engagement and playfulness in various settings. - **Merging Art and Functionality:** Exploring the fusion of artistic aesthetics and practicality in design, creating visually appealing and functional products that enhance the user experience. - **Interactive Public Spaces:** Promoting the development of interactive and engaging public spaces that foster social connections and interactions through unique and playful installations. ### Sectors Adopting This - **Furniture Design:** Incorporating interactive and social elements into furniture designs to create unique and engaging products for both indoor and outdoor settings. - **Art and Design:** Exploring the intersection of art and functionality to create visually appealing products that serve a practical purpose, blurring the lines between art and design. - **Architecture and Urban Planning:** Integrating interactive and playful installations into public spaces to promote social interactions and enhance the overall experience of urban environments. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Dual-Seated Plate Aluminum Benches](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/move-a-little-bit-further.md) - [Two-Person Seesaw Benches](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/a-problem-halved.md) - [Bold Motion Bench Installations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/wheelbench-krllermller-edition.md) - [Rotating Solar-Powered Benches](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/a-solarpowered-bench-that-spins-ever-so-slowly.md) - [Rotating Solar Powered Benches](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/eness-1.md) - [Muscle Loss-Combating Playground Benches](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/playground-bench.md) - [Kinetic Musical Benches](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/musical-bench.md) - [Adaptive Public Seating](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/adp-bench.md) - [Artfully Crafted Public Benches](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/us-her-him.md)
