# Transformative Teeter Totters The Seesaw Seat Changes into a Chair When You Need to Rest By Leslie Chen | Published 2012-05-26 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/seesaw-seat References: [artibazar](http://www.artibazar.com/seasawseat-par-dirk-ploos-van-amstel) & [dvandirk.nl](http://www.dvandirk.nl/) Teeter totters used to be one of my favorite things about going to the park, and now the Seesaw Seat has found a way to function for both playtime and more serious matters (like sitting down). Designed by Dirk Ploos van Amstel, the Seesaw Seat acts as a traditional [teeter totter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/balance-bench) when you're looking to have fun, but then also transforms into a [comfortable seat](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/pony) when you need a rest. The design is also suitable for a [children's table](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/twiny-sofa-system) where they can comfortably sit on the ground and have a snack atop the surface of the seat. Beautifully constructed with a pale shade of wood and a multitude of layered pieces, the Seesaw Seat is aesthetically and functionally amazing. Let this new seesaw of the future give you fun times and a place to rest your head. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 3.1/10 - Popularity: 32% | Activity: 52% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Gen Z, Gen Alpha, Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### What Makes This Trend Stand Out - **Multifunctional Furniture:** Designing furniture that serves more than one purpose, such as the Seesaw Seat, creates disruptive innovation opportunities in optimizing small living spaces. - **Adaptive Playground Equipment:** Developing playground equipment that can adapt to different situations, such as the Seesaw Seat transforming into a chair, creates new possibilities for play and accessibility. - **Child-friendly Home Decor:** Creating home decor that can be aesthetically pleasing for adults and functional for children, such as the Seesaw Seat being used as a children's table, opens up a market for child-friendly home products. ### Sectors Adopting This - **Furniture Manufacturing:** Manufacturers in the furniture industry can explore designing and producing multi-functional furniture that can cater to small living spaces and promote optimization. - **Playground Equipment Manufacturing:** Manufacturers in the playground equipment industry can explore creating adaptive equipment that can adjust to different needs and create new possibilities for play and accessibility. - **Home Decor Retail:** Retailers in the home decor industry can develop products that cater to both adults and children, creating a market for child-friendly home products. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Playground-Inspired Seating Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/swing-seat.md) - [Sloped Movement Stools](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/tippi-chair.md) - [Dual-Function Play Swings](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/birddy.md) - [Modular Chromatic Child Chairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/kidzilla-chair.md) - [Development Childhood Furniture Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/table-and-chair-set.md) - [Adventurous Versatile Lounge Chairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/flipster-seat.md) - [Dynamic Movement Chairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/wobbl-rocking-chair.md) - [Adjustable Position Chair Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/switch2-chair.md) - [Seesaw-Like Playful Benches](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/balance-bench.md)
