The Seed Blanket is a solution to this problem of sealed-over soil, offering lush green leaves that can grow just about anywhere. This, however, is not the sort of garden that you sew in one spot, for this imaginative product is an [independent rug](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/touch-grass-collection) that contains the roots of its photosynthesizing fibers. Designed by Cristobal Barff Delfau, Gaby Hooper and Dror Kaspi, the project was shortlisted at the 2012 James Dyson Awards. Its unique [biodegradable material](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/bough-pot) is manufactured to a flexible grid, each with crisscrossing creases that form triangular turf units. The thick blades of grass grow up from between the burlap-like fabric, requiring some sun and water but never soiling its surroundings with dirt, because it doesn't contain any. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 3.6/10 - Popularity: 60% | Activity: 40% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Gen Z, Gen Alpha, Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Eco](https://www.trendhunter.com/eco) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Portable Lawns:** The Seed Blanket is an innovative solution to enable the growth of plants and grass in concrete-covered regions. - **Biodegradable Materials:** The invention of The Seed Blanket could potentially pave the way for sustainable and eco-friendly materials for portable lawns. - **Flexible Grids:** The creation of a flexible grid for The Seed Blanket presents opportunities for versatile implementation in various outdoor applications. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Landscaping:** The landscaping industry could adapt to designing and installing portable lawns with innovative materials and flexible grids. - **Event Planning:** The Seed Blanket presents a unique opportunity to create outdoor spaces for events in unconventional locations. - **Outdoor Adventure:** The Seed Blanket could be used to create portable lawns for outdoor activities and adventures such as camping and picnics. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [3D-Printed Reforestation Seed Balls](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/disperseed.md) - [Living Plant DIY Chairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/green-hideaway.md) - [Sustainable Soft Beach Blankets](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/nomadix-festival-blanket.md) - [Sustainable Growth Systems](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/treesoil.md) - [Building Block Gardening Systems](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/lego-planterior.md) - [Urban Roofscape Projects](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/central-yards.md) - [Sprouting Chair Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/wood-chair-on-grass.md) - [Foolproof Sprouting Kits](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/patella-crescenda-sprouting-kit.md) - [Zero-Waste Seedling Pots](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/bough-pot.md)
