# Peeling Desk Lamps The Secret Lamps Makes You Peel Away Layers for Light By Michael Hines | Published 2011-05-13 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/secret-lamp References: [yankodesign](http://www.yankodesign.com/2011/05/09/unveiling-light/) & [mypdportfolio.blogspot](http://mypdportfolio.blogspot.com/2011/03/sample-image-i-will-be-after-doing_2878.html) Attempting to peel layers off of your lamp is probably not the best idea in the world -- unless that lamp is the Secret Lamp from designer Choi Jongwoo. The Secret Lamp is a funky little light that lets you peel back a [removable layer](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sorpresa) to [control the amount of light](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/tangent-lamp) emitted. In addition to letting you control the level of light with peeling, the actual light of the lamp can be removed and used as an extremely bright nightlight. While I am not too crazy about the nightlight function, I am loving the [peel-away design](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/lp-lamp). Unfortunately, it doesn't appear as if the technology needed to create the Secret Lamp exists yet, but if they can create a touchscreen 3D cellphone, anything is possible. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 0.8/10 - Popularity: 12% | Activity: 5% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 30% men, 70% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### What Makes This Trend Stand Out - **Interactive Lighting:** The peel-away design of the Secret Lamp showcases the potential for interactive lighting solutions that allow users to control the level of light emitted. - **Modular Light Fixtures:** The removable light feature of the Secret Lamp highlights the opportunity for modular light fixtures that can be customized and adapted to different lighting needs. - **Multi-functional Lighting:** The nightlight function of the Secret Lamp demonstrates the demand for multi-functional lighting solutions that serve multiple purposes and cater to different lighting situations. ### Sectors Adopting This - **Interior Design:** Interior designers can leverage the concept of interactive lighting to create innovative and customizable lighting designs that enhance the ambiance of various spaces. - **Home Decor:** The modular light fixture trend presents an opportunity for home decor companies to offer versatile and adaptable lighting options that can be easily integrated into different interior designs. - **Lighting Technology:** The concept of multi-functional lighting opens doors for lighting technology companies to develop advanced lighting solutions that offer enhanced functionality and versatility. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Space-Saving Desk Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/spacesaving-desk-lamp.md) - [Bent Metal Sheet Lighting](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/peel-series.md) - [Mushroom-Inspired Sleek Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/lunar-lamp-concept.md) - [Traditional Tower-Inspired Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-pagoda-lamp.md) - [Ultra-Flexible Lamp Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/anywhereuse-lamp.md) - [Hollow Candle-Like Table Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/lampe.md) - [Compact Elaborate LED Smart-Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/cup-lamp.md) - [Storage-Friendly Task Lights](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/storage-lamp.md) - [Orange Peel Waste-Made Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/apeel.md)
