# Rocket Launchpad Cathedrals Sebastian Errazuriz Offers a Counter-Proposal for Notre-Dame Rebuild By Kalin Ned | Published 2019-05-29 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sebastian-errazuriz1 References: [dezeen](https://www.dezeen.com/2019/05/21/rocket-notre-dame-proposal-sebastian-errazuriz/) & [meetsebastian](http://www.meetsebastian.com/) It seems that New York-based designer Sebastian Errazuriz has had enough with the various proposals for the Notre-Dame rebuild. Indeed, after France issued a call for creative ideas with regard to the restoration of the cathedral, many architectural firms have taken the opportunity to showcase their ideas — from [Studio NAB's](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/gsl-gallery) greenhouse proposal and Alex Nerovnya's glass roof to [Studio Tjoa's](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/provostry) honeycomb spire and Vincent Callebaut's biomimicry concept. Now, Sebastian Errazuriz attempts to bring the influx of proposals to a halt with a strategic "act of creative one-upmanship." The designer's concept — not a serious one, envisions a [rocket launchpad will replace the roof](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-torch) and lost spire of Notre-Dame. Contrary to popular belief, Sebastian Errazuriz holds that the cathedral should be left unfinished. As a result, his vision is meant to "ridicule every remaining, rapacious architectural firm still circling the carcass of Notre-Dame." ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 3.5/10 - Popularity: 59% | Activity: 37% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Gen Z, Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### What Makes This Trend Stand Out - **Satirical Architecture:** There is a growing trend in architecture towards satirical or humorous concepts, challenging traditional designs and pushing boundaries of what is considered acceptable or plausible. - **Counter-proposal Culture:** Increasingly, there is a counter-proposal trend in architecture, with designers creating radical proposals as a challenge to more conventional designs and as a means of sparking debate. - **Controversial Restoration:** There is a trend towards controversial restoration proposals that challenge the conventional approach of replicating or rebuilding historic structures, in favor of creating something entirely new and unexpected. ### Sectors Adopting This - **Architecture:** Architects have an opportunity to embrace the trend towards satirical and counter-proposal designs to challenge current norms and spark innovation. - **Construction:** Contractors and builders should pay attention to the trend towards controversial restoration, possibly leading to opportunities for innovative materials or technology in the rebuilding process. - **Creative Design:** Creatives in all sectors can take inspiration from the trend towards satirical design and the use of humor to challenge norms and inspire debate in their respective fields. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Historical Architecture Game Blocks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/lego-notre-dame-set.md) - [Building Plan Design Exhibitions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/jean-nouvel-2.md) - [Unique 3D Printing Concepts](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/3d-printed-church.md) - [Commemorative Parisian Art Exhibitions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/kamel-mennour.md) - [Parisian Landmark Chocolate Replicas](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/notre-dame-cathedral.md) - [Renovated Neo-Gothic Provostry](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/provostry.md) - [Angular Church Matte Extensions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/red-church.md) - [Bio-Cement Oceanic Structures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/reef-rocket.md) - [Low-Tech Cathedral Pavilions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/exchange-pavilion.md)
