# DIY Foam Furniture The Scum Chair by Hannes Harms Looks Like It's Made Out of Bubble Gum By Francis Tiangson | Published 2011-01-28 | Unique Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/scum-chair References: [designboom](http://www.designboom.com/weblog/cat/8/view/12987/hannes-harms-scum-chair.html) Hannes Harms is anindustrial design student who has created an awesome piece of furniture called the Scum Chair that requires a little do-it-yourself action. The design is simply beautiful, using [cardboard cutouts](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/trashy) and [expanding foam](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/rethink-softly) to create individual [oddly-shaped seats](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/bubble-stool). The Scum Chair contrasts the aesthetics of the rigid and structures cardboard pieces against the wild and free-formed foam support. Since some assembly is required, each Scum Chair will ultimately turn out be a one-of-a-kind piece. The first thing I thought of when I saw this chair was that a giant wad of gum holding it together, it's definitely a conversation starter.
