# Stunning Space-Inspired Illuminators The Woodlabo Sculptural Lights Have Character and Warmth By Michael Hemsworth | Published 2016-12-17 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sculptural-light References: [homecrux](http://www.homecrux.com/2016/12/16/58672/woodlabo-crafts-sculptural-light-fixtures-from-wood.html) & [woodlabo](http://www.woodlabo.com/en/lighting/) These sculptural lights from Woodlabo draw inspiration from space in a number of ways that make them an ethereal series of illuminators that are truly exceptional. Designed by Gaël Wuithier, the Woodlabo lights consist of six wooden illuminators in total including the Eagle, Landing, [Orbit](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/orbit-and-axis), Moon, [Lift Off](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/lift-house) and [Apollo](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/architecture-inspired-table-lamp) styles. The Woodlabo sculptural lights are created by utilizing birch plywood that hides the LED illumination equipment within the various wooden folds. This creates a lighting effect that is somewhat mysterious and warm without coming across as too modern or stark. The Woodlabo lights are suspended using thin wires that help each of the designs to take on a floating design aesthetic to further reinforce the outer space travel-inspired design. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 4.2/10 - Popularity: 59% | Activity: 58% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### Key Themes Behind This Trend - **Space-inspired Lighting:** Opportunity for creating lighting designs that draw inspiration from space and have a warm, ethereal feel. - **Wooden Sculptural Lighting:** Opportunity for creating unique lighting designs that utilize birch plywood and incorporate organic folds for a warm and natural aesthetic. - **Suspension Lighting:** Opportunity for creating lighting designs that incorporate thin wires to create a floating design aesthetic and reinforce the space-themed inspiration. ### Where This Applies - **Lighting Design:** Opportunity for lighting designers to create unique and visually impressive designs by drawing inspiration from space and incorporating organic materials. - **Interior Design:** Opportunity for interior designers to incorporate these space-inspired lights into their designs to create a warm and ethereal feel for their clients. - **Home Decor:** Opportunity for home decor companies to offer unique lighting options that incorporate natural materials and a space-inspired design aesthetic. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Spaced-Themed LED Lights](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/moon-room.md) - [Eclipse-Inspired Whimsical Pendant Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/space-traveler.md) - [Solar System-Inspired Lighting Series](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/cosmooval.md) - [Organic Wood Light Fixtures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sandscape-lighting.md) - [Sculptural Wooden Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/arc-lamp.md) - [Sculpted Wooden Desktop Illuminators](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sleepy-wood-desk-lamp.md) - [Design-Focused Wooden Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/wooden-soul.md) - [Otherworldly Lighting Fixture Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/otherworldly-lighting-fixture.md) - [Japanese-Inspired Sculptureal Lighting](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/wonder-things.md)
