By carefully [layering photographs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/baggage-claim-mirrors), Hazard creates the illusion that they are a [portal to another world](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/duo-installation). Hazard starts by taking the same photo and printing multiple copies of it. He then cuts jagged holes that get smaller and smaller until it looks like one could step through and enter an alternate universe. Scott Hazard also plays with [chimney smoke](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/light-into-darkness) by turning the toxic cloud into a gateway to a different world. All of the photographs come from urban areas and makes one wonder if there are actually random portals out there waiting to be found. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 5.8/10 - Popularity: 79% | Activity: 86% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial - Top markets: North America, Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### Key Themes Behind This Trend - **Layered Photography:** Exploring the technique of layering multiple copies of a photo to create a portal-like effect, opening up new creative possibilities in photography. - **Illusionary Art:** Creating optical illusions through art, challenging perceptions and inviting viewers to question reality. - **Alternate Universes:** Inspiring the exploration of parallel worlds and the concept of multiple realities through artistic representation. ### Where This Applies - **Photography:** Incorporating the layered photography technique to offer unique and imaginative visual experiences for clients and art enthusiasts. - **Art:** Encouraging artists to experiment with illusionary techniques in their work, pushing the boundaries of traditional art forms. - **Entertainment:** Exploring the concept of alternate universes through visual experiences in movies, video games, and virtual reality, captivating audiences with immersive storytelling. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Painting-Immersive Photo Exhibits](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/new-ground-exhibition.md) - [Digital Portal Exhibitions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-portal-galleries.md) - [Laser-Cut Urban Artistry](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/laser-cut-city-maps.md) - [Blurry Abstract Photography Exhibits](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/optical-allusion.md) - [Stunning Origami Portraits](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/origami-portaits.md) - [Illuminated Curtained Light Installations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/making-the-invisible-visible.md) - [Sci-Fi-Themed Metallic Potty Pods](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-portal.md) - [Concept-Driven Public Art Installations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ivan-toth-depea.md) - [Explosion-Damaged Sculpture Series](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/light-into-darkness.md)
