# Lablike Lighting Schoolhouse Electric Creates Eccentrically Bare-Boned Light Fixtures By Meghan Young | Published 2011-05-28 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/schoolhouse-electric References: [design-milk](http://design-milk.com/schoolhouse-electric-table-lamps/) & [schoolhouseelectric](http://www.schoolhouseelectric.com/) I love the aesthetic of Schoolhouse Electric's light fixtures. Simple, quirky and full of [strange experimentation](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/kawabi), each light seems to draw on the theme of a science laboratory -- some more than others, of course. Considering that people are starting to appreciate the transparency of products both physically and metaphorically, these new lamps will be a hit for sure. Portland-based Schoolhouse Electric's lighting fixture line seems to also draw inspiration from the city's industrial past. With [exposed bulbs and cords](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/pivoting-lamps-collection), each lamp presents a lot of character. Suitable for just about any style interior, Schoolhouse Electric's lamps are priced between $85 and $250. Looking at Schoolhouse Electric's creations, I see a [functional art form](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/chant) more than anything else. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 2.9/10 - Popularity: 68% | Activity: 12% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial - Top markets: North America, Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### Key Themes Behind This Trend - **Transparent Products:** The appreciation for transparency in products presents an opportunity for creating light fixtures that emphasize visual openness and simplicity. - **Experimental Design:** Schoolhouse Electric's quirky and eccentric light fixtures showcase the potential for experimental design in the lighting industry. - **Industrial Inspiration:** The incorporation of industrial elements in lighting fixtures, as seen in Schoolhouse Electric's line, highlights the trend of utilizing past influences for contemporary design. ### Where This Applies - **Lighting:** The lighting industry can explore the creation of transparent and experimental light fixtures to cater to the growing demand for unique and visually appealing designs. - **Interior Design:** The interior design industry can incorporate Schoolhouse Electric's industrial-inspired light fixtures to enhance the aesthetics of various styles of interiors. - **Art and Home Decor:** The art and home decor industry can view Schoolhouse Electric's light fixtures as functional art pieces that provide a unique and eclectic touch to home spaces. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Industrial Contemporary Lighting Series](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/shop-light.md) - [Elegant Geometric Light Fixtures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/geometric-light-fixture.md) - [Sleek Structural Lighting Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/emotional-lab-light.md) - [Illusory Modernist Light Fixtures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/teline-collection-by-kelly-wearstler.md) - [Elegant Customizable Lighting Fixtures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/customizable-lighting-fixtures.md) - [Railway-Inspired Lighting Series](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/insulator-lighting.md) - [Retro-Futuristic Lighting Lines](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/robert-abbey-fine-lighting.md) - [Outlet-Equipped Workstation Lights](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/avro-pendant-lamp.md) - [Stunningly Minimalist Lighting Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/minimalist-lighting-design.md)
