American practice [Tower Pinkster](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/truman-brewery-masterplan) is the latest example of that as it optimizes a [high school layout](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/collge-reinemarie) in Michigan to work to "reduce the number of student casualties in the event of a terror attack." The institution boasts curved hallways that limit the line of sight and is divided into segments that are separated by "fire doors" that can be directly operated by a button. Moreover, Tower Pinkster install intermittent barriers "for schoolchildren to hide behind" in case of an attack. In addition, classrooms will have an internal locking mechanism, windows will be bullet-proof, and there will be short blockades behind classroom doors that can also provide cover. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 5.2/10 - Popularity: 79% | Activity: 67% | Freshness: 9% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Gen Z, Gen Alpha - Top markets: North America ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### What Makes This Trend Stand Out - **Safe School Designs:** Opportunities for architects to innovate in the design of safe and secure school layouts by integrating advanced technologies and safety features. - **Terrorism Resistant Architecture:** Innovative architectural solutions integrating advanced technologies, such as biometric security systems and blast-resistant materials, to develop structures that resist terrorist attacks. - **Adaptive School Layouts:** Opportunities for architects to create adaptive school layouts, that can respond to emergency situations and protect students and faculty members while minimizing the loss of life. ### Sectors Adopting This - **Architecture and Construction:** Architects and contractors can provide innovative solutions for educational institutions by designing and building secure school layouts that prioritize safety of students and faculty. - **Security Technology:** Opportunities exist for companies that provide advanced security technologies, such as smart locks, surveillance systems, and biometric sensors, to integrate them into school designs, providing a more effective and safer environment. - **Education and Safety Training:** Education and training companies can provide specialized training to help schools respond to emergency situations, and also train students and teachers on safety protocols in case of a potential terror attack. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Terraced School Complexes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/robert-badinter-secondary-school.md) - [Modern Blue-Accented Academic Buildings](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/marie-esther-pavilion.md) - [Nature-Bounding School Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/cole-du-znith.md) - [Shelter-Functioning Schools](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/john-gray-school.md) - [Blue-Toned School Makeovers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/fuquiang-school.md) - [Dome-Style School Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/al-fanar.md) - [Education Architecture Expansions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/rainbow-international-school.md) - [Sustainable Educational Architecture Projects](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sustainable-educational-architecture.md) - [Inclusive Learning Campuses](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/swan-hill-specialist-school.md)
