The practice covers the exterior side of the [artist's studio](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/schack-arkitektur) with [black-painted larch shingles](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/lil-shingle). The purpose of doing this is because the studio rests right between mature trees and with the matte black look, it is able to create a "backdrop to the changing daylight and changing seasons". The practice speaks about the design, stating that "Utilising shingles to clad the walls and roof was influenced by Archer + Braun's co-founder Sarah Braun's exposure to the architectural vernacular of rural villages in the Alps [...] [They] were sourced from an artisan producer in Bavaria that produces shingles that are hand-split and made from older larch 'shingle' trees, creating a finish to the timber that exposes the grain and is rich in variety and texture," Image Credit: Archer + Braun ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 1.1/10 - Popularity: 16% | Activity: 4% | Freshness: 13% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Gen Z, Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, South America, Europe, Asia, Africa ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) ## Key Themes ### What's Driving This Trend - **Black-painted Shingle Design:** The use of black-painted shingles as a design element in architecture and interior design creates an opportunity for a unique aesthetic that highlights texture and natural materials. - **Hand-crafted Architecture:** The incorporation of hand-crafted and artisanal materials in architecture and design creates a unique experience for the consumer that cannot be replicated by mass-produced materials. - **Natural Integration in Design:** The trend of integrating natural elements, such as the use of shingles, into design creates a unique aesthetic that blends architecture with nature, creating opportunities for eco-friendly and sustainable design. ### Who This Affects Most - **Architecture:** The architecture industry can explore using natural materials and hand-crafted elements in their designs to create unique and eco-friendly spaces for consumers. - **Interior Design:** The interior design industry can incorporate natural materials like black-painted shingles to add texture and create a unique look and feel for the consumer. - **Artisan Producer:** The artisanal production industry could focus on creating sustainable materials, like hand-split shingles, for use in architecture and interior design, catering to consumers looking for unique, eco-friendly, and high-quality finishes. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Black-Timber Farmhouse Extensions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/shadow-barn.md) - [Refurnished Concrete Shingle Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/gingerbread-house-1.md) - [Updated 60s English Bungalows](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/house-of-wood-shingle.md) - [Earthy Tonal Tiled Sheds](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/studio-shed-1.md) - [Black-Timber Overhanging Roof Buildings](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/senior-shelter.md) - [Green Tile Garden Studios](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/kimoflage.md) - [Farm-Inspired Office Spaces](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/black-barn-1.md) - [Charred Wood Mountain Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/alexander-jermyn-architecture.md) - [Industrial Shed-Inspired Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/dallas-pierce-quintero.md)
