# Shapely Modular Vases The Scape Vase Transforms Any Surface Into a Miniature Landscape By Vasiliki Marapas | Published 2014-11-07 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/scape-vase References: [dezeen](http://www.dezeen.com/2014/11/06/oato-scape-domed-porcelain-vases-dutch-design-week-2014/) & [oato.nl](http://www.oato.nl/News.html) Dutch studio Oato partnered with porcelain expert Frans Ottinink to create the Scape series, a collection of vases which feature a domed shape. The base of the vases are six-sided and have identical imprints, allowing them to fit together seamlessly. The hexagon was, in fact, the only shape that would accommodate the vase's side-by-side configuration. The studio describes the collection by saying, "Scape are small, [modular vases](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/corcelain) shaped like little hills that transform any surface in your home into a landscape." At the top of each hilly vase is a cylindrical cistern that can accommodate a [single flower stem](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/lithic-bloom). The vases, which are all [made by hand](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/gourd-project), are available in camel, dark and light grey. The colors are achieved by blending pigment directly into the porcelain. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 4.3/10 - Popularity: 75% | Activity: 46% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 30% men, 70% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Modular Vases:** The Scape series introduces a modular design for vases, allowing them to fit together seamlessly. - **Transformative Home Decor:** The Scape vases can transform any surface in a home into a miniature landscape. - **Handmade Porcelain:** The Scape vases are made by hand using porcelain, showcasing the craftsmanship and uniqueness of each piece. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Home Decor:** The modular vases present an opportunity for home decor brands to create customizable and transformative decorative pieces. - **Floristry:** Florists can utilize the modular vases to create visually innovative arrangements and displays. - **Artisanal Ceramics:** The handmade porcelain vases tap into the demand for artisanal ceramics and unique, one-of-a-kind pieces. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Modern Totem-Like Vases](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/totemlike-vases.md) - [Geometry-Inspired Vase Collections](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/triangle-vase-collection.md) - [Milled Three-Dimensional Puzzle Vases](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ceramic-bodies.md) - [Delicate Colorful Vases](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/delicate-colorful-vase.md) - [Sculpturally Provocative Vases](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/vibrant-sculptural-vase.md) - [Nature-Inspired Colorful Glass Vases](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/anemona.md) - [Personalized Floral Grid Vases](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/grid-vase.md) - [Colorful Geometric Ceramic Vases](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/barva-vases.md) - [Connection-Inspired X-Shaped Vases](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/vaax.md)
