# Meditative Pillared Saunas This Sauna Tower is a Tome of Rest and Relaxation By Vasiliki Marapas | Published 2014-06-06 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sauna-tower References: [dezeen](http://www.dezeen.com/2014/06/05/modulorbeat-one-man-sauna-stacked-concrete-tower/) & [modulorbeat.de](http://www.modulorbeat.de/) Modulorbeat, a German architecture collective, created a sauna inside a tower of stacked concrete for the city of Bochum. The sauna, which is located on the site of an abandoned factory, is part of an [annual art festival](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/round-about-baths) 'The Detroit Project.' The festival encourages practical and artistic projects that consider the city's changing economic situation. Architect Jan Kampshoff explains, "Our idea was to transform a [former industrial site into a sauna](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/upcycled-sauna), which is connected to the idea of doing nothing. People working in the mines or the factories receive healthcare and leisure time so when these companies disappear they need other ways to look after themselves." The hollowed structure is made from cast concrete, ordered from a mining supply firm. The finished complex is ordered into three distinct zones. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 0.8/10 - Popularity: 10% | Activity: 5% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Meditative Saunas:** Creating saunas that focus on rest and relaxation, providing a space for people to take care of themselves. - **Industrial Site Repurposing:** Transforming abandoned industrial sites into innovative spaces for practical and artistic projects. - **Health and Wellness Architecture:** Designing structures that promote health, well-being, and self-care. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Architecture and Design:** Exploring new ways to repurpose industrial sites and create innovative structures for various purposes. - **Healthcare and Wellness:** Providing spaces and services that prioritize health, relaxation, and self-care. - **Urban Planning and Development:** Considering innovative approaches to utilize abandoned spaces and positively impact the community. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Architectural Home Saunas](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-luminar.md) - [Modular Sauna Pavilions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/pavilion-sei.md) - [Reflection-Inducing Floating Saunas](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/trosten-floating-sauna.md) - [Hammam-Inspired Sauna Cubicles](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/logica-plus.md) - [Salvaged Material-Made Saunas](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/upcycled-sauna.md) - [Communal Wooden Peninsula Saunas](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/hotspot.md) - [Portable Luxury Saunas](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/thermowood-minicube-sauna.md) - [Timber Sauna Structures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/jonas-sauna.md) - [Modern Home Wellness Systems](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/kohler.md)
