# Fruit Box-Inspired Chairs Satsuma by Läufer + Keichel Use Fruit Crates for a Base By Jamie Danielle Munro | Published 2014-08-20 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/satsuma References: [designboom](http://www.designboom.com/design/satsuma-chair-laufer-keichel-fruit-boxes-08-19-2014/) & [laeuferkeichel.de](http://www.laeuferkeichel.de/) Satsuma is a new type of chair design by Läufer + Keichel that turn to an unlikely source for inspiration: [fruit boxes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/soft-grounds) (or crates, to be more specific). When the chairs are placed beside a number of crates, it's clear to see how the two are connected. The back of the chair especially is reminiscent of these crates, using the same type of slatted design that allows fruit to breathe while being transported. The chairs come in two colors, yellow and brown, so buyers have a couple of options to choose from. Moreover, the chairs are lightweight due to the triangular shape of the legs. This might sound minimal, but it helps to shave off a few pounds, making the furniture far easier to transport.
