Jon Chonko, a graphic designer out of New York City, has been doing sandwich scans for a little while now. His Tumblr account is full of amazing cross-section shots of the world's favorite sandwiches. From [smoked meat on rye](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/mega-cheesesteak) to [club sandwiches](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/asiago-bagel-stacks), to epic seven-decker monstrosities, it's no wonder that his Tumblr account has been so popular. In fact, his account has so many views, that he's collected his best sandwich scans into a [coffee table book](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/grillos-presents-pickled-fresh) called 'Scanwiches' that can be easily confused for an awesome takeout menu. Chonko is picky about where his sandwich scans come from, as they're an eclectic mix of both store-bought and homemade. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 2.9/10 - Popularity: 49% | Activity: 29% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 30% men, 70% women - Primary generations: Gen Z, Gen Alpha, Millennial - Top markets: North America ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Lifestyle](https://www.trendhunter.com/lifestyle) > [Food](https://www.trendhunter.com/food) ## Key Themes ### Key Themes Behind This Trend - **Photogenic-food Trend:** Opportunity to capitalize on the growing popularity of visually appealing food items, such as sandwich scans, by creating unique and photogenic dishes. - **Food Photography Book:** Opportunity to create a coffee table book featuring visually stunning food photography, similar to 'Scanwiches', that appeals to food enthusiasts and art lovers alike. - **Online Food Community:** Opportunity to build an online platform where food lovers can share and discover visually appealing food creations, including sandwich scans. ### Where This Applies - **Food and Beverage:** Disruptive innovation opportunities exist in the food and beverage industry to create visually captivating and photogenic products and menus. - **Publishing:** Disruptive innovation opportunities exist in the publishing industry to create unique and visually appealing coffee table books that cater to niche interests. - **Social Media and Technology:** Disruptive innovation opportunities exist in the social media and technology industry to develop an online platform for food enthusiasts to share and discover visually appealing food creations. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Grilled Cheese Swatch Books](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/borden-grilled-cheese-swatch-book.md) - [Unique Artistic Books](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/amusebouche.md) - [Summertime Sandwich Brand Books](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-blade-and-the-brine.md) - [Self-Referential Sandwich Makers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sandwich-maker-concept.md) - [Gourmet Grilled Cheese Menus](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/chef-eric-greenspan.md) - [Crispy Meat-Packed Sandwiches](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/toasted-sandwiches.md) - [Chainsaw-Sliced Sandwiches](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/chainsaw-sliced-sandwiches.md) - [Perfect Sandwich Guides](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/perfect-sandwich.md) - [Holiday-Inspired Sandwich Lineups](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/bad-santa.md)
